Proving the church should be the shelter, not the hammer

Pope Francis greeted U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her husband, Paul Pelosi, at the Vatican on June 29, 2022. The politician's visit made headlines as she received communion that day at St. Peter's Basilica during a papal Mass on the feast of St. Peter and Paul. She also regularly receives communion in Washington, D.C., Reuters reported, but has been banned from the sacrament in her home base of San Francisco by the city's archbishop, Salvatore Cordileone, because she supports abortion rights.
Bishop Cordileone, sounds like he actually believes he is the godfather

So the pope will recieve her and she can take communion, but her own priest will not?
How does that square?
It isn't as though she is having or preforming abortions.
Makes me wonder how the church can offer confession and communion to known and violent criminals.

@Carla Her own priest is suffering the cardinal sin of pride, thinking he has some infallible grasp of doctrine, which he does not, according to the church. He has let political motivation usurp his sacred responsibility as a minister to the people. On matters of the church, however, the Pope is infallible.

The church offers sanctuary to even the worst offenders in the direct example of Christ on the cross. Religion, whether a synagogue, temple, basilica or meeting house, should be a shelter and place of healing for body, mind and soul. It should teach by example and if I may (specifically speaking to the conservatives) if you're going to scream and parade around squawking about God and values and the Bible, then learn to follow it. Read some Matthew, read the beatitudes, read Jesus' words on the cross.

I'm no longer Catholic (it's always in the blood) but I believe in the ideal of organized faith for many. When the Catholic church acts this way, it shows itself to be no better than the Baptists who scream all gays can stay out of their church or evangelicals calling for progressives to burn in hell.

Let me ask you a question. If that same Bishop refused to give Communion to a conservative politician because he/she belived in automatically deporting illegal aliens from the country, would you still have same objections?

@DavidT8899 M-hm. 2+2 was always going to equal 5 to you. Nobody ever called you guys the party of enlightenment.

@Graylight You are a waste of time;avoiding my very simple and direct question with stupid little catchphrases and one-liners that you probably got from the back of a crackerjack box.Good bye!

The practice of denying communion based on political beliefs reminds that in many ways, the Church hasn’t moved on since the Renaissance.

And that is his right to do as head of his particular section of church, irregardless of whether you agree with the decision.
Yeah and all the while those taking confession are fucking kids. Shut it down.
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
The church is very hypocritical
