@Ryannnnnn I think the coalition government under Cameron from 2010-15 was rather good. I don’t mean I agreed with all its policies, but on the whole I think it governed fairly and competently. Cameron lost his way when he was on his own, and Nick Clegg got no thanks.

@MartinII I feel like it kinda goes out the window in the shadow of the surprise referendum he pulled. Also the decisions regarding university costs and their poor bashing benefit reforms didn't sit well with me at all.

@Ryannnnnn I can understand that. I’m trying to assess him dispassionately rather than according to my own particular opinions. He just seemed so much less comfortable when he was on his own. And I think it was a great mistake to resign immediately after the referendum.

@CharlesRomsey That would mean to lose all that people have worked for since the 1790s- and leave the ordinary people at the mercy of rampant capitalism.

@Mindfulness That is true. She just destroyed people and communities. Johnson's Brexit may destroy the Union, with its treatment of Northern Ireland and Scotland- both of whom voted against Brexit and both of whom are suffering because of it.

@MartinII The quality of management has fallen in the past thirty years, not just politicians. They are self entitled from 'elite' schools, not decent folk who have risen by graft and hard work. That - obviously - is a sweeping statement.

@MartinII Opinions, But I might be incorrect. On the right, smart people can make a lot more in business honestly. Plus the internet, social Media and smart phones now mean there is no such thing as a personal life for a politician. Then throw in the modern media campaign meaning that no one goes into office without big compromises of principle. Personally for me, the idea that even if I was "successful" close to half the people would hate me on principle would be enough. Not that I am sensitive. I just dont want to get run off the road..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Thanks for that. I think all those points are valid. When, 50 years ago, I had vague ambitions to have a career in politics, I realised that one requirement was an ability to be nice to a lot of people one disliked or disapproved of. Not, I’m afraid, a skill I have ever acquired!
