It wouldn't do any good to write them.😔We ARE being controlled. I don't think voting really does much good either. Our rights are slowly being taken away. We're faced with a system that is so secretive and so wildly out of control that the vast majority of us have no earthly clue as to what is going on, on this, the planet we inhabit.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Actually that wont work in the US because the people your representatives serve are the people who contribute funds to their re election campaigns. Either change that or find a new place to live, where the government belongs to the voters😷
redredred · M
@whowasthatmaskedman Campaign contributions mean very little for a politician running for re-election. The real money is in being paid for influence

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@redredred True.. But you have to get elected first. And then look after those "Special interests".😷
redredred · M
@whowasthatmaskedman yes but unelected candidates have nothing to offer
RedBaron · M
And like clockwork, here you are to wring your hands about it. As if it will make a difference. Too predictable.
Maybe if I donate $20 million, they'll take my call?

Come on now, you don't need math when you have the bible.

Much like prohibition of alcohol back in the day, the outlawing of abortion will create more problems than it’s supposed to be “ solving”

I’m a parent who lives in a country with probably the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the developed world. Abortion is also legal in our country but, as you can probably guess with a very high rate of teen mums going full term, not every girl or woman who is pregnant I under difficult living conditions will choose to abort their child just because they are not in a stable relationship. Most keep their child. Some abort.

ALL women should have the right to choose. It’s a difficult and horrible decision emotionally but it’s still a choice.

@Graylight Well you want name, location, and date, which means you want to harass the person (s) that did do it for birth control. Drama Queen I'm not. But I am a threat to you since I practice Free Thought every day.
Graylight · 51-55, F
firefall · 61-69, M
@dakotaviper With all that practice, I'd have expected you to get it right occasionally

There are a few concepts missing from your writtings here.
1. We must remember that although our elected representatives exsist to serve " the people" if those people don't engage enough that the system won't work. Democracy only works as hard as its citizens do.
2. I believe that the Roe V Wade decision being overturned isin't really about abortion but is about state's rights. In other words whether or not on the national level the government has the right to tell each state what to do regarding this matter. Same as with the death penalty. This idea upholds the Constitution.
3. Laws and our understanding ebb and flow. The pendulum swings one way too hard sometimes but we all work together as a society to get it right.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@bijouxbroussard We wont see eye to eye on this one. I know that some ultra conservative lawmakers here are trying to bend the law however they can to prevent abortion. I didn't know those particular details, but thats not what's happening at the Supreme Court level. The Supreme Court is above the fray and no matter how it got pushed up the chain the fact is states rights are why the Supreme Court would have to make a change if thats what they decide.

And the Texas Reps seem to be trying to stop groups from funding women to leave specifically for an abortion, thats not stopping them from going on their own.
For those of us who believe abortion is equal to killing a newborn child they will do anything to stop it.
But even though I am conservative on this subject, I do believe that medical abortions should be allowed past 7 weeks. Currently this is illegal here.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@REMsleep
For those of us who believe abortion is equal to killing a newborn child they will do anything to stop it.
There is no evidence for this and cannot be legislated as a viable scientific opinion.
I appreciate your perspective on this issue, but as much as I've been taught in my life to hold the Scotus as incorruptible, this simply isn't the case anymore. True, they never even conceive many inane arguments and points that fuel a site like this, but they are clearly influenced to the point of near abuse by both parties. Politics and the tone of the country are changing, and the Scouts isn't infallible.
@REMsleep SCOTUS went up for grabs when the GOP deliberately stalled the process to prevent Obama from appointing a moderate Justice when Scalia passed and then rushed to replace RBG with a conservative. The Supreme Court only works when all voices are represented. The GOP circumvented that tradition for their own agenda.

Great advice. However imperfect the system is, you must engage with it as deeply as possible or you cannot complain about the consequences. The current situation is upsetting and confusing, but moaning about it will achieve little.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
That's one important fact you overlooked... You stay the thirteenth is there to serve the people.. What about the people serving the government?
Half of you, nearly half anyway, don't like voting but then complain about the result.
You voting system itself sucks and is wide open to manipulation via the boundaries that are drawn.
Did those things to and then you will have a representative government
justanothername · 51-55, M
@ozgirl512 People don’t serve the govt. the government’s job is to work for the people.
dakotaviper · 56-60, M
@justanothername but some people, even those on this site believe otherwise. That's what I don't understand.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@justanothername when half the people can't be bothered voting, it's not working!
Voting is serving your Civic duty....
Gusman · 61-69, M
The women in those states that adopt this despicable law need to leave that state and move to states that will not adopt that law. Send those states with that law into economic melt down
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Gusman Problem with that is, I hear it more and more. If you don't like the way they do it there, move somewhere else. Except why should people who otherwise love where they live be forced into other areas because of the will of the minority? When does that stop? First you decide to move, then they decide you should, then they enforce it...and you end up with laws like Roe v. Wade.

If you don’t own your body, then you own nothing. It’s the most basic thing. This isn’t about babies, conservatives couldn’t give a shit about them, it’s about power over others.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Straylight This is nothing less than an assault on all women as surely as the plot of the Handmaids Tale. Its a freedom denied, making all women slaves, and I choose my words carefully.😷
