Scrapping Roe v. Wade will simply be one more step of many for the United States in its quest to abandon the moniker..

moniker "Leader of the Free World" in favor of a new one: "Regressive Third World Theocracy"
Allelse · 36-40, M
Yeah you mofoes are going backward big time. 1 in 6 babies are born into poverty in America, and the want to strip women's rights to get an abortion. More babies in poverty!!!
Imsleepy · 31-35
That varies from state to state and isn’t an inherent right. It is not a human at conception. It’s just not. Your theological views do not trump biology.
another fact is that you do not give a shit about womens rights
Where is your proof of this claim? @Torsten
Torsten · 36-40, M
@Imsleepy dont even mention biology like you know anything about it haha

my proof is you supporting the death of them. its that simple
Imsleepy · 31-35
I know a lot about biology. Some of us pursue an education beyond high school.

So you have no proof? As I thought. @Torsten
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
sad to say but the conservative element in the U.S. is making them become a backwards country. another example: all first world countries and more and more 3rd world countries have universal healthcare but in the U.S. communism-paranoia makes many think universal healthcare is communism. then I ask them in what way does universal healthcare equate to colective ownership of the means of production ( the essence of communism as defined by Marx) and then they go silent because they have never even studied Marx and have no idea what communism is.
@reflectingmonkey I kind of hate the idea of government controlling our healthcare but I can not ignore the fact that we spend more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet and we do not get as good results as other first world nations who have universal healthcare of some sort.

@MasterLee https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2019/03/01/an-year-old-pleaded-an-abortion-after-she-was-raped-she-was-forced-give-birth/ disgusting and disturbing.
🤬
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Peaceandnamaste first I heard of it. You gave the impression your daughter was raped and unable to get an abortion.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
IF this happens it will leave the question up to the individual States. Then the voters can have their say. Isn't this country supposed to be a democracy?
Human1000 · M
@fanuc2013 Correct again. But you got my point..
Human1000 · M
@BohemianBoo But then the people decide, and that would be a travesty because then the majority would be telling the minority what to do. Never!
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@fanuc2013 yep, we're supposed to be a democratic republic (as defined by the Constitution), where states hold majority of power, not a federalist democracy...

@Elessar you can call me what you like. You're clearly a braindead political nut job and anyone with opposing views to yours, of course you will try and lump them in a category you deem as the enemy.
Honestly though. Your opinion does not matter because you have no opinions of your own.
Vin53 · M
tell me if you'd not ad hom ever again. Think about it.

@Torsten
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Torsten I'm calling you for what you are, you're literally advocating for a measure pushed by a political faction of religious fanatics while claiming it's not about politics.

And your opinion doesn't matter either because it's not supported by reality.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@RedFlower And that really is why we dont need to worry about anything happening in America or Russia today.. Unless you are already living there. Then it sucks to be you either way..😷
carpediem · 61-69, M
@RedFlower Neither abortion nor contraception are deemed illegal by this supreme court action. But feel free to continue to pretend they are 🙄
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@RedFlower I love the fact that he literally made his own enemies.
Paladin · 56-60, M
I always wondered how people could follow people like Hitler or mussolini. Now we're seeing it played out right in front of our eyes.
@Paladin Sadly, a lot of people like the idea of a "strong leader" coming in and solving everyone's problems. Which is understandable, it sounds great on paper. But when you lose the checks and balances, it's very easy for that "strong man" to take away our rights. And of course, dictators never really solve problems. It's not like authoritarian countries have economic prosperity or high living standards.
deadgerbil · 22-25
I find it interesting how conservatives go on and on about freedoms, yet are wanting to remove a woman's freedom to choose what happens and leave it up to the state to bar abortions. And this stuff really only appeals to the regressive conservative traditional elements within society

They value states rights over individual liberty
@deadgerbil Yes. That’s the biggest irony of all. Whining for two years about "freedom" regarding a stupid mask, while interfering with the most private and personal decision a woman will make. 🤨
Elessar · 26-30, M
@bijouxbroussard This is probably their revenge for having made them wear a mask. Keep in mind we're dealing with toddlers
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@deadgerbil Hypocrisy at its Finest
justanothername · 51-55, M
If you are going to take away a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion then the US may as well change its name to Afghanistan because women over there have no rights either.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@wildbill83 Not idiotic at all. If all the right wants to do is to return the US back to the way it was in the 1950s where women basically had no rights then it may as well be called Afghanistan. In Afghanistan women have no rights or freedom of speech.

@wildbill83 So you are saying that you don’t want the US to be dragged back to how life was in the 1950s?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
I'm British and it's a secular country. Abortion has been a settled issue for decades.

Our nearby Ireland is less so; it's famously catholic and small-town socially conservative. They voted in a referendum to legalise abortion in 2018. Something which doesn't look likely to be overturned. Though yes, there is some resistance to it in some places.

America looks like a country going backwards because a bunch of religious zealots have gained the system.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Burnley123 Please send help.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Just another example of a dying empire turning in on itself and devouring its own entrails. Time to paint your wagon and go north or south. Because your huddled masses yearning to be free had better get the flock out of here.😷
Vin53 · M
That was an interesting take...Your words?

@whowasthatmaskedman
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Vin53 In parts. With a homage to "Paint your Wagon " and a pinch from the Statue of liberty. "Always steal from the best."😷
I think perhaps it is time for me to settle in a different country.
@Vin53 I like Canada, nice people, beautiful country, but just too cold for me.

The good news is climate change has meant that I've only had to shovel my driveway 3x in the last 2 years of New England winters. The bad news is, well, we know the bad news.

Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
@Budwick I’m moving to Canada.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Peaceandnamaste OK, have fun.
I imagine that Democrats will scrap the filibuster and pass a law on the federal guaranteeing them the same rights they had under roe v wade, they might also pack the court while they are at it. Republican blunder to fill the court with someone who they know will overturn it. Like a dog chasing a car and catching it what to do now.
@fanuc2013 There has not been a federal law recognizing the legality of abortion so there has never been such a law to strike down so you can't say that it is unconstitutional do so. This is a big screw up despite what people are trying to tell you if they strike down roe v wade there are other decisions which will loose their underpinnings. It is a deviation from precedent which the justices have promised to maintain. It means the court is a political body instead of one based on the law.
@Subsumedpat Right. SCOTUS calls it stare decisis, Latin for “to stand by things decided.” The idea being that if Congress really doesn't like a decision, they can always pass legislation to override the decision; it's NOT the job of SCOTUS to constantly revisit old decisions.

But if SCOTUS decides once its OK to jettison stare decisis, then the gates are open. A future SCOTUS could reverse Citizen's United, and corporations would stop being people. A future SCOTUS could reverse 2008's DC vs Heller, thus reconnecting gun possession with state militias; a connection that goes back nearly 100 years. And of course a future SCOTUS could reinstitute Roe v Wade.

We are looking at the total politicization of SCOTUS, if this court rejects stare decisis.
@ElwoodBlues Yes by getting rid of stare decisis we can get rid of all sorts of rights people once think they had.
carpediem · 61-69, M
LOL another drama queen
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
False narrative. This ruling merely leaves the question up to the individual States. There will always be abortions available, some states will allow it, others won't. Not really much different than it is now, it's just that the federal government is getting out of it.
Slade · 56-60, M
@Vin53 you just want to maximize abortions. You fetishize it

You'd love to taxiderm them as keepsakes!
Vin53 · M

So..., If Liberals get They're way, And enact laws that allow the baby to be born, And terminate it later. Does that mean We,ll have to let Dr. Gosnell out of prison ?
Majorsite · 61-69, M
@Stargazer89 Some Liberal leaked the Supreme Courts. discission thinking it would help They're cause, But Oh Boy, are They in for a stomping in the midterms !!!
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@BohemianBoo Former Gov. Northam gave a confusing statement about a bill that was in the Virginia legislature that some people took to mean that he supported such things.

Okay, So if I follow everyones logic here, And agree that abortions should be automatic and constitutionally protected, There are more than a few here that it should have been used on.

What a sad sad regression!
RedBaron · M
Not really. Roe v Wade was ill-conceived from the beginning. Congress will likely pass legislation to make the right to choose federal law.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@RedBaron That would take a Constitutional amendment, and those take years to pass, if they ever do.
RedBaron · M
@fanuc2013 No it wouldn't. All it would take is a bill passed by the House and Senate and signed into law by the president. It doesn't need to be in the constitution.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@RedBaron I have to disagree. If Congress passed such a law it would be struck down by the Supreme Court. This has happened with other laws in the past.
tindrummer · M
@fanuc2013 maybe not - this is a catholic court - suddenly it's precedent be damned for the culture wars
Human1000 · M
@fanuc2013 They would find a way to keep it. The horror of this Court is not limited.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Drafting point and counter point arguments is literally their job .
@AthrillatheHunt I sincerely hope you are correct. However, I have my doubts, unless you are about to reveal that you are an intern at the Supreme Court.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@CorvusBlackthorne no journalist would ever dare ask them if this is standard operating procedure , Bc the answer would kill this entire story they are pushing .
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@AthrillatheHunt Why would somebody leak it, then? What's the purpose?

Indeed, abortion will just be the first domino to fall if this comes to pass

Tangentially, it also boggles the mind how nominally omniscient deities somehow need innumerable legions of mortal, human intermediaries to enact divine agendas
