Bye-bye, Roe decision. Hello, Gilead

Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights, draft opinion shows
Vin53 · M
Gonna be a major coat hanger shortage nation-wide.

This is dumb. Ending Roe isn't the end of abortion, it's the end of SAFE abortion. The DIY era pre-Roe was absolutely horrible. The Internet will showcase that experience again to a worldwide audience if this gets overturned.

@Vin53 I'll invest in Coat Hangars Inc. 👍

Oops. Most coat hangars are plastic now. What's the backup plan.
Vin53 · M
Plastic hanger cutting scissors and a widdling knife. Will be just as effective.

Old white men thinking they should dictate what a woman can and can’t do regarding her own body. Smh.
@Carla I'm able to criticize the Republicans without being racist or sexist. I think anyone who can't is just telling on themselves. No different than the Republicans who can't stop talking about Jussie Smollet being black.
@Imsleepy Because I'm against racism and sexism. What are you, a Tankie?
Imsleepy · 31-35
Yeah, you’ve said that like 4 times now. You’ve yet to point out what I said was racist or sexist. @BohemianBoo
Everyone who said the Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans gets a punch in the neck.

Also, a reminder that this won't just affect abortion. Women who have miscarriages will be prosecuted for illegal abortion as well.

It's an attack on women's healthcare as a whole.

Ok now with the insanity that abortion has become let’s take a look at this from an ethical standpoint do I agree that abortion should be illegal absolutely not do I think we need heavier regulations on it yes. Do some individuals act like abortion is nothing more than birth control yes. Should this mentally be terminated through education absolutely. Now here is my proposal and I think it’s a great compromise that would make a difference. Any child in the womb that can survive with medical intervention outside the womb shall be carried to term otherwise it constitutes as first degree murder. Any pregnancy that is the result of sexual violence (abuse or rape) can be terminated due to conditions the child was conceived and a police report must be filed before the procedure. Limitations on how many abortions an individual can receive in a medically determined time span should be put in place as well. 1 every 2 years might be a good place to start. Obviously the mother’s health conditions should be a factor for this and well that information should be left to medical professionals.
(False reports shall be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law)

@ElwoodBlues now the leaked information was saying that the regulations for abortion should not be a federal issue but up to the state. Which it honestly sounds like a better idea. Because one it cuts off federal spending on it an abortion is most definitely a dangerous procedure but is an elective procedure.
@Ozuye502
Because one it cuts off federal spending on it
There is NO federal spending on abortion in the US. That was made illegal decades ago. Look up the Hyde Amendment.
@Ozuye502 I'm going to have to disagree with you there. Because let's say the person trying to get an abortion is an 11-year-old girl, because she wouldn't survive the pregnancy. Pregnancy wasn't her idea, even. Cutting off federal funding means that her family has to pay for that abortion in order to save her life.
Looks like SCOTUS is now totally politicized. SCOTUS can now overrule any precedent if it's politically expedient. The phrase "settled law" is now meaningless.

Just out of curiosity, who didn't see that coming?
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
Theres no guarantee of that,but I hope so!Roe vs Wade is based on bad-actually nonexistant-law,a fact that even supporters of the decision acknowledge.And just because its not mandated nationally,dont be so foolish as to belive abortion will become outlawed.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@DavidT8899 4th Amendment.
Vin53 · M
And some states will try and convict women who decided not to carry an unwanted baby to term.
And those states will prosecute women who cross into states that allow abortions.
Those states will help make our country pre-suffragette America.

@DavidT8899
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@Vin53 No,they wont because legally they cant.Its the same principle has driving with an out-of-state license.As long as its valid the state your in has to allow it.
justanothername · 51-55, M
Very ignorant and short sighted outcome.
Just out of curiosity, what abortion rules do the people of this nation want?
