Does the 2nd amendment really apply anymore?

Basically I wanna hear people from the US tell me why they feel the 2nd amendment is important considering no matter how well armed they are, their government is much better armed and could stop any force put against them.

@FelixLegion Cool now look up the top 10 countries in the world instead of dictators and you'll see those countries happily have gun control and don't turn into 1984

@FelixLegion I don't really want your guns. I just want your country's gun crime to drop. I want your schools to be safe. I want you to prove you're competent with your weapon by getting a licence, registration and proper storage for it. Simple small changes that would stop most idiots from wielding a firearm. Also make it illegal for private sales to happen. That is the loophole that results in anyone owning a gun in the US.

Keep hunting, shooting clay targets or just going to a range. But show your government that you are sensible with the gun. I also think a vet who has had proper gun training could even merit a special status. Much like how drivers licences have levels of capability.

@FelixLegion Yeah lawful sales aren't the problem but a lot of sales aren't lawful. You need to earn a licence, have the background checks, have registration, have training, etc on all sales. It shouldnt be harder to drive a car legally than own a gun.

Just so you know I'm not a liberal. I don't care about the Democrats and their opinions because they'll probably just go with what makes them more money.

Lastly I agree schooling, justice and mental health are big issues but all countries have those issues and don't have high gun crime. You gotta look at what the US has that makes their problem unique and that is the ease of gun ownership.

@Qwerty14 Your last sentence is the key. It is the EASE of gun ownership by anyone who wants one that is the problem, particularly the ease in owning specific weapons designed for the sole purpose of killing lots of people quickly with minimal effort.
