The video from the craft was available in real time (modulo a 38-sec delay and a few seconds of processing).

It was pretty spectacular!

Here's some info:

Yes it was great. I’m just worrying that hitting it created some kind of butterfly effect that will bite us in the ass few years from now.
@eMortal They made a point of saying that they were going after the moon, not the main body, and nudging it, not trying to destroy it...

And this happened at a closest approach...which is a ways off.

And with no atmosphere or water, the literal butterfly effect can't happen.

I sure did! I think NASA should get the Guinness record for farthest target hit with a dart 😂
@Zaphod42 Suddenly, a bunch of guys from the British Isles are very sad...
Pfuzylogic · M
Still a few days to see if it had the impact of changing the asteroids path!
@Pfuzylogic Yes, that was my understanding, as well.
Ontheroad · M
Yes, I did watch it and I'm solidly in "it was amazing" category.
@Ontheroad Agreed!

I watched it slam that asteroid at 7.24 am in Perth Western Australia.
Amazing achievement, even being able to watch it live, incredible.
There were a couple of Italian Cube satellites following the impact spacecraft taking photographs. They will be amazing to see as well.
@Gusman Yes, being able to see such amazing, live images was quite something, was it not?

Visual proof of a collision, straight from the forward-facing camera.

Astounding!

No. I'm interested in it, but waited for the morning report. It is an amazing feat!
DDonde · 31-35, M
Nah I missed it. I was gonna check it out a few hours ago and I discovered it had already happened
@DDonde Great!
