Just get a big USB hard disk. Don't rely on cloud or internal drives, always have a backup. Which reminds me, I haven't backed up my laptop for about a month! Better go and find that backup disk.

@GovanDUNNY no I dunno about that
GovanDUNNY · M

Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@GovanDUNNY I don't think that's true.

I pay far too much for a Dropbox account. I keep meaning to cancel it but haven't worked out what to do with the photos.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@SW-User amazon if you have prime have amazon photos and it's free
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Mellowgirl Just make sure you have an extra copy stored elsewhere.
I don't quite do that but I do keep my external backup disk separate from my laptop (usually in my handbag).
The backup rule of three dictates that you should;
Have at least three copies of your data
Store the copies on at least two different media types
Keep at least one of those copies offsite

@Mellowgirl I don't have Prime, but it might be better value than Dropbox.

You can get a 1tb external hard drive for £40
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@GovanDUNNY Or 2 TB for 70 GBP. I have a little 2 TB Toshiba Canvio which comes in a convenient little pouch so you can keep it together with its USB cable. I have my laptop set up so that when I plug the drive in it automatically takes a backup.

On my PC and a removable hard drive .

SD cards,
high capacity USB thumb drives
I think you can purchase more cloud space or subscribe to a monthly plan.

@DarkSideoftheMoon https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/largest-flash-drives/
the SanDisk glide flash drives have a high photo capacity, along with others in the website above.
External drives, dropboxes are also good as other's suggested.

@DarkSideoftheMoon That's hard to imagine and makes entire sense. In that way I'm not even that much older, but those events can matter there in how we remember
CheekyBadger · M
I store them on my PC which has fault tolerant storage and I have backups regularly elsewhere.
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@CheekyBadger ah i have a laptop but i never use it and its old. Still works beautifully but i dont use it often and whenever i turn it on it needs to update to i let it update, do whatever i need and turn it off and ignore it for months on end
But maybe ill go on and download my photos to it im just nervous when it does go ill lose the photots

@DarkSideoftheMoon if you buy yourself an external hard drive you can store a copy on the laptop and on the external hard drive so if one breaks you still have the other. Just don't keep them together in case something happens to both at the same time. I keep one of my backups 10000 miles away! Bit difficult to access it though!
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@CheekyBadger i have to google what an external harddrive is 🙈

DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@GLITTER omg me too, sometimes i get memories and see an old funny meme and it makes my day

@DarkSideoftheMoon I do like when I get the memories, I do appreciate those 😊

Get some extra space on your cloud drive. Thumb drives get misplaced/lost.
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@Northwest i dont want to pay monthly 😫
Northwest · M
@DarkSideoftheMoon I recommend you invest in a cloud plan. If you have a Microsoft 365 Account, gives you Excel, Word, Powerpoint and a bunch of other stuff, for 5 devices/accounts, each account gets 1TB cloud space for free. I think it runs about $100 per year. Google has a similar thing.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Looking like you need removal drives etc. Store multiple copies to avoid corruption or loss.
I have loads of room left in my cloud storage but I would put them on to an eternal hard drive if I needed to
SoLeRiMix · 31-35, M
I keep only the most precious ones in my hard drive dedicated to such storage. Rest, l delete from time to time.😇
icedsky · 51-55, M
Majority of mine to SD cards then to an external hard drive when I need to make space.

Flash drive or external hard drive might be the way to go.

I'm Zen I let them go
Every now and then I print them off and put them in an actual album then delete them.
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@V00doo i started doing that too with my wedding photos and my daughters pictures but i filled an album already of 200 pics and shes only been alive 8 weeks 😬
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Everything in the cloud. Xiaomi is quite generous.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
external storage of course
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
On my harddrive and an external backup drive. Nothing in the cloud.
aboveaverageaveragejoe · 51-55, M
One backup is never enough. Consider both USB sticks and external hard drive backups. Hard drives will eventually fail over time as will USB sticks. It's better to have one of each.
