Ever experienced a tsunami?

People over here in Morocco are panicking because of the volcanic eruption in La Palma - Canary Islands, even though it's such an unlikely, pessimistic scenario.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
Not an actual one, no. But we were once under threat of one when the earthquake that caused the Fukushima disaster happened. At 5 am the issued a mandatory evacuation order and by 7am we got to go back home when it turned out to be a 1 foot wave that rolled in.

@Zaphod42

Minitsunamis are the best kind. 🤭
SW-User
@Zaphod42 Lol one 🦶 though.
What a relief 🤣
🤗awwww...🥺 Not many people can survive a tsunami...I hope y’all stay safe! Prayers sent 🙏🏼💙

I just saw that on the News. It’s having two active lava rivers it seems...
SW-User
Yeah, but the good thing is that the volcanic activity there is fairly stable and predictable. Unless a massive earthquake strikes at the same time then we're safe. We will be okay, I feel. Thank you ♥️

@Vivaci
Yes, you’ll be okay. 🤗

Remember to watch the stray animals. They will tell you how safe it is...When a tsunami hit near Manila many yrs ago, they noticed that all the free animals survived coz they had gone to the top of the mountain! 😳@SW-User
SW-User
Yeah. Animals have natural radars that can sometimes beat the most advanced technologies. 🕊🐈🐿@Vivaci
Yes, I was in Khao Lak in December 2004 ... I will never forget what I saw and heard then.
SW-User
@RobinPhoenix Wow. I'm glad you survived. That was extremely tragic.
@SW-User Thanks 💚 yes, it was a terrible tragedy and I will be forever grateful that my partner and I survived this disaster. Many of the guests at the hotel we stayed at were not so fortunate, as were many thousands of others, too.... I will never forget the desperate cries of those who called for their children, partners or siblings, the crying of the children who lost their parents.... it was a nightmare and still continues for those, who have lost their loved ones there.

Yes it could also devastate the entire eastern coast of the USA plus Florida and the islands in the area. Scary thought. How far from the coast are you?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User Do you have a bag filled with necessities and important things that can’t be replaced like papers and such? Something you can just grab and take with you so you don’t have to waste time packing everything?
SW-User
You are opening my eyes and making me think about stuff ma lady 🥴@cherokeepatti
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User yes if you live in a city and need to get out the roads will be crowded so it’s best to be ready as soon as you hear something, grab all your important stuff that you can carry and leave quickly. At least be able to get to an area where a large tsunami can’t reach, and in an area with a road to take you away to the interior part of your country. Hopefully you won’t have to leave but it’s better to be safe than sorry

My heart goes out to those who are affected my that volcano. 😟
SW-User
Yeah. People were evacuated from their homes. Sad for the animals too. @Degbeme
acpguy · C
My ex-wife she destroyed everything and wiped out a large bank account.🤣
SW-User
Lol. I did not see that coming. @acpguy
acpguy · C
@SW-User I like to inject humor when things are sad.
SW-User
That’s the best strategy. Life is too short to be sad. Lolz @acpguy
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
Damn bro... But fr What are the chances?
SW-User
@assemblingaknob Pretty slim, thankfully.

The entire Western side of Morocco lies on the Atlantic. We are geographically close to the Canary islands, as well. That being said, hopefully + realistically speaking chances are most of us will be ok. @SW-User

@SW-User 🤗

@SW-User
I didn't realize where the island was located.
I thought it was farther west..
There would need to be a major landslide or very strong mid ocean earthquake and I don't see that happening, hopefully.
SW-User
Thankfully not. I live long way from the coast though so unless it's an apocalyptic tsunami I'll be safe.
SW-User
@SW-User Maybe when you decide to go swimming one day 😆

To my luck, I live by the Atlantic coast aka the proposed hotspot.
SW-User
@SW-User I hope that all will be ok. Serious tsunamis are rare events so fortune is on your side.
SW-User
@SW-User Fortunately that's true.
Human1000 · M
That's why I live in the Atlas Mountains. Scary.
SW-User
For real? Which area?

@Human1000
Human1000 · M
@SW-User No, sorry, but I did drive over them once during a visit. Very beautiful.
SW-User
@Human1000 Yeah. Majestic scenery and awesome people.

Might need to flee to there soon 🌚
empanadas · 31-35, M
Thankfully no, they seem wild. I don't think you guys would get one either. Unless there was a strong enough earthquake. Stay safe regardless
SW-User
@empanadas Thank you. Yup. I am the only one with the optimistic attitude in this family. They are praying like crazy 😅
empanadas · 31-35, M
@SW-User trust me, I know. I got parents who think Pikachu means 100 times stronger than god.
