Should the Secret Service protect the President or the office of the President?

Are they legitimate bodyguards or agents of the Deep State with conflicting motivations and loyalties?

I think we need to have people around Presidents, Generals, Admirals, Cabinet members, Governors, Senators, Congressmen...ALL be willing to think and test orders/directions for reasonableness and legality...
