Is it a good idea to give kids participation trophies?

I believe that giving children trophies for losing, will harm them in the long run.

They will grow up and find out that real life has winners and losers. Sometimes
you win, sometimes you lose. I believe that is part of the problem with young
adults that shoot up schools and other places, because life is to tough for them.
