Macron On An Official Visit To The USA
The French First Coupled arrived at the White House this morning, for a welcome ceremony, and they had gifts.
Macron gave the president four gifts: a vinyl and CD of the soundtrack to the film the first couple saw on their first date – “Un Homme et une Femme”, a cup from the house Christofle symbolizing links between France and the US, a sweater from House Saint James and a watch from LIP Horlogerie. He also gave the first lady a copy of “Madame Bovary” and “The Plague, The Fall, Exile and the Kingdom, and Selected Essays”, by Albert Camus. He gave Vice President Kamala Harris a model of the Ariane 5 rocket.
This is a chance for the two leaders to show that the rift caused by the Australian nuclear sub deal is on the mends, and for the French to introduce the issue of US grants and tax breaks that apply only to US EV vendors.
A visit to New Orleans is also on the agenda.
