Falling Lumber Prices

Well, lookee there, the price of 1000 board feet of lumber has fallen 60-70% over prices in January from a high of nearly $1700 USD now down to about $575. President Biden was soundly blamed for the exorbitant rise in the price of lumber by most so-called Republicans on here, so now is he going to be credited for it falling back to relatively normal levels? Haven't heard a peep on here about it falling... 😊

I find pricing on so much of the products produced confusing as hell. Supply and Demand is the supposed course. But with the forest fires on the west side and the hurricanes on the right side, isn't the demand for trees increasing thus people can increase the pricing. Isn't that the American way?
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Poor trees. 🌳😞
@FloorGenAdm ikr screw everything else! call me the lorax cuz i speak for the trees
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@FloorGenAdm Won't disagree with you but reality is, trees are going to used for building whether we like it or not.
LEL. Honestly what I don't get is why most people don't understand that both parties have a vested interest in blaming the other side of the state of economic affairs and in reality no matter who is in the white house or which party is in charge of government the people who occupy positions of power have LESS to do with what happens economically than EVER BEfore and are getting less and less relevant by the DAY.

not that they ever were even in the beginning but even less so now than before. I mean how much power do people really delusionally imagine the president has to effect Gas prices day to day? The middle east is incredibly unstable and that will remain a fact regardless of who is in the white house.

@BetweenKittensandRiots Agreed and that was the point of my post, lumber prices rose, now they have fallen, same President in power. Obviously there are times when a President's foreign economic policies can have an effect say were they to impose a 25% tax on imported lumber but that hasn't happened here.

Lumber being a commodity is also affected by by weather, crisis, demand and natural disasters. So much more as well. Not putting your words down. Just adding to it
@gdon39 It is a bit weird how that whenever someone is not happy with a POTUS they get blamed for commodity prices which they have virtually zero influence over.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@gdon39 Agreed, lumber, much like gas are commodities and not subject to Presidential actions but mostly by many other factors as you stated. I just find it risible that many Republicans blame POTUS for those rises in commodity prices yet not a peep when the prices fall again, as they usually do.
My guess this is a direct result of things starting to open up more at the US/Canada border since we ship alot of lumber to you guys.
@spjennifer If lumber prices are going down supply must be going up though. One of the few industries where that is actually happening.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Yes, with lockdowns ending in many places, production has gone back up and therefor supply has increased significantly which is the primary cause for the drop in price.
@spjennifer In other news the largest copper mine on earth is going on strike. I support their cause but it is going to mean stuff sucks here for awhile with already stupid electronics prices.

@spjennifer I probably wouldn't shoot the prairie dog. I like to watch them. I'm not real big on killing anything besides rats, mice flies, ticks, etc. But the AR 15 is not considered a deer rifle as the projectile is to light in most states.

Oh yippee. So glad Biden’s dropped lumber prices
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@Classy No, he hasn't ,any more than either he or tRump raised them but according to many of the hard core Republicans on SW, it was all Biden's fault when the price skyrocketed in January. Prices rise and fall according to demand and production, not because of a President...
Baremine · 70-79, C
@Classy Biden hasn't done shit for lumber prices. Not even in his line of sight.
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
Demographic realities will keep it falling, permanently.
jenmil · 22-25, F
No. Price some gas or propane.
