Massachusetts might be hit with first hurricane in 30 years on Sunday morning. Governor urges Cape Cod vacationers to come home NOW and delay

or cancel vacation plans if they have not left yet. Traffic on Rte 3 will be stall and crawl, and the goal is not to have ANY vacationers trapped on the Bourne or Sagamore Bridges during the hurricane when it would be extremely dangerous.

Although the storm track has not finalized, the following locations ALSO might be at risk:
Long Island, Rhode Island, and northern Connecticut.

If you live in one of those locations, please stock up on storm supplies, and ensure boats and vehicles are safe.

Just unbelievable. My mum told me the news over the phone this morning. We were trying to remember the last time a strong hurricane directly hit that area.

@4meAndyou Wow. I've lived through destructive tornadoes but never been that close to a hurricane. Every time we've heard the sirens go off, we're too busy scrambling for shelter to see things like what you described. What I remember most, in the aftermath of storms, is the air outdoors being full of falling dust. The sky was smoky with it and very spooky looking even though the sun was out.

@SW-User I was born in far western Nebraska, so I have experienced both sorts of weather. My grandfather used to load us into the car and drive down inside the potato cellar. My Aunt Darlene and her children had no place to shelter, once, and went to a neighbors house with a basement. Their home was entirely destroyed.

@4meAndyou Oh my...When I was a kid, a neighbor's house blew up from the pressure when a tornado ripped through our street. Fortunately, the neighbors weren't at home. They'd gone on vacation and left the windows all tightly shut and locked. That night there was looting on our street, as people broke into that house and others to steal what wasn't broken. Police lights and sirens kept us up all night. 馃槓

Is it headed your way too?
4meAndyouF
@cherokeepatti My cat will probably like it better if it is quiet. I did buy TWO battery operated fans two years ago, and I hope the D batteries I bought at the time still work!!!

@4meAndyou do you live in an apartment upstairs where it would be safe to keep your windows open during the hot days?
4meAndyouF
@cherokeepatti Yes. WAY up...and super hot...so I NEED those fans...馃ぃ

Fill a bathtub with water, battery powered flashlight and fresh batteries are a must. If you can find one a kerosene powered stove is a good idea. And ice. Lots of ice.
4meAndyouF
@JesseInTX Sterno is better than kerosene if you have to cook inside because of high winds. It is safe and won't kill you with carbon monoxide.
