Single trees can enhance any landscape [I Love Forests and Trees]

This tree is on Dava Moor, on the Highland/Moray border in Scotland

The odd thing is that the natural progression, at least where I live, is to have a forest of trees, where most are not all spread out and full like that. Lone trees like that are an anomaly caused by the clearing of land for agriculture. And judging by its growth, that tree grew after the land was cleared.

Now, I presume in drier areas lone trees may be naturally more common. I have been in such areas. But a lot is also cleared for agriculture so it is hard to tell.

These trees are lovely, though!

@JoyfulSilence The forest behind this tree was probably planted post 1918, in the wake of the 1914-18 war. This tree looks older.
Much of the woodland in this part of Scotland was lost in the mediaeval period or earlier. The Dava Moor is an area of heather moor, with various archaeological sites dating from between hundreds to thousands of years ago, when it was also still moorland.

@YMITheWayIM Often a story in Scotland, and many are lost now, unfortunately.
