I Haven't Always Loved Them

I survived a tornado when I was little. We barely survived. The older couple next door, who were basically the grandparents I never had, were both killed by that storm. When help finally arrived, we had to walk several miles to get to a nearby church. Along the way, we passed through their yard, although we couldn't really tell where we were. This was when we discovered their bodies. They were holding one another, still. What I also found were people who had managed to get there, and they were in the process of stealing their stuff. Needless to say, a fight broke out. I was young, so I just watched in horror. People were fighting, my mother was falling apart. I had never seen my dad cry before that night. These sick people were literally stepping over their bodies to get to their stuff. That night stayed with me. It was traumatic, and it was a long time before my faith in people was restored.

What a horrible thing for a young child to have to witness. It is difficult for those of us that witness from a young age that the world can be so cruel. I often fight hard to find good. It's one of the reasons I stay here. While there is a lot of nastiness going on there are good people as well.

@Chasingthesun I'm sorry to hear that. I live in a terrible place for bad weather.
