I wholly agree with you. I am in the woods a lot, since I live in a very rural area, or....I can be at the sea in 20 minutes. Either stirs my soul. Truly.

@Freeranger I'm happy you made it back home.

@SweetMae It's almost like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz isn't it. "There's no place like home....there's no place like home" 😉

@SweetMae It's the best vacation I ever had Mae.
I finally visited a part of the American South. I have a fascination for it.
I finally met my friend that I've been chatting with for almost 10 years.
And I just did what I wanted to do... I traveled around the state (Georgia) and went to see things that the locals like to see too.
I would love to visit more parts of the south, but I'm not that rich and I ussually do these things by myself. I don't do vacation that often. But I would love to take time and visit Alabama, Tennesee, Mississipi, Virgina, North-Dakota, Kentucky, ...
Florida isn't high up on the list, too much beach. I'm not really a beach person. I visited the ocean when I was in Georgia for 2 days, but I rather go more land inwards, the meadows, plains, fields and mountains are more attractive to me.

Lovely spot
Make a nice little spot for a tent
Hopefully the locals obey the rule of only take pictures and leave only footprints

@Sammykelly You can't tell from the picture but that is swampy. I guess that is why the tree fell over.

Found this in a clearing

I like exploring the roots..
I once found a shotgun in a root ball.. the wood stock was completely rotted away but it was still recognizable.. and it was still loaded..
I wonder what the story was behind that 🤔

@SW-User Interesting! I do love history.

@SweetMae
The tree it was under was really big, probably over a hundred years old. The shotgun probably dated to the late 1800s..
The area would have been remote from town back then and people of the time didn't leave firearms just laying around, they were valuable and necessary for hunting and living so i wonder what happened to the owner?
How could someone have lost it?
Maybe he was nearby also, i looked around for bones but the rootball was deep and relatively small for such a big tree and there wasn't much disturbed ground around it.
Makes you think 🤔

SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Eddiesolds I have no idea. It seems to have shallow roots.

Not going to lie my mind would've played tricks on me to think that thing is moving and I need to get out of the woods fast.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@SW-User 🤣 I can understand that feeling in the woods.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
Nice pic. It looks like the remains of a big tree. Its collapse opened up light and space for other plants.
