Is the danger with tornadoes mainly just flying objects?

Probably sounds like a dumb question but I always thought a tornado would literally lift a person into the sky like on Wizard of Oz lol. But I've recently seen videos where all that happened was a person got lifted 5ft, twirled, and impacted by other flying objects.
