Gardening Woes…

I’m trying to dig out some Box Bush roots. These things are laughing at me. One more bent garden fork…

@Dino11 Yeah keep it sharpened good too. I tore up a couple of tools just trying to get weed and grass roots out of a flower bed in the back yard. Needs to be flooded with water and the dirt all dug out and new fresh dirt put in.

I’ve got a couple of those hedges next to my sun room. I’ve thought if I could remove them it would be a good place to plant some garden plants but removing the roots would be horrible I believe. Maybe better to kill them out and build raised bed containers there. Getting tired of having to trim them several times every spring & summer….the space would be better used for something productive.

@cherokeepatti The whole area’s box bushes were all eaten last year by these green caterpillars, which killed them stone dead, so they were already ex Box Bushes, but my gosh those roots are something else. A bit like digging out a tree. I had 18 of them!

@Oneofthestormboys I wonder when people plant them if they realize that they are one of the worse things there are to remove? I lived in a little rental house about 40 years ago and they had them planted between the two houses and I worked hard to get them trimmed down and in good shape. I lived there for a year, kept them trimmed. After I moved out nobody seemed to care, and this went on for decades. You would have had to used a chainsaw to get them trimmed they were overgrown for at least 10 feet up in the air. If I owned that little house and wanted a boundary to separate the two yards I would have had a fence set up between them. Less maintenance etc.
I hate it when that happens.

@LilMissAnonyMOUSE 2nd one! I’m not sure I can buy a stronger one than that!
@Oneofthestormboys Oh no.....maybe a shovel is the next best option?
