Do you take the time to stop and count the stars?

Do you ever stop to look at the night sky and realise just how small and insignificant we really are? This is a photo of the Milky Way taken on the beach by my house (not by me). One of the best things about living on the beach is the lack of light pollution so the skies light up all on their own 馃枻

I read somewhere that there are roughly 9000 stars visible to the naked eye from earth. I don鈥檛 care to take the time to try and disprove that so I accept their count as more or less accurate 馃槈
[@527654,Zaphod42] lol I鈥檒l get counting
[@1203119,Sophiesmiles] Let me help you get started

Every chance I get I stare at the stars. I find solace in hoping some of my long distance friends are looking at the same ones I am.

[@6912,Pinkstarburst] I do the same. 馃檪

Was that taken with a camera or a phone?

That's a lot of stars!
[@912138,OogieBoogie] that was taken with a proper camera 鉂わ笍 It鈥檚 such an amazing photo of the Milky Way- such a clear night
[@1203119,Sophiesmiles] it's downright SPECTACULAR!

I get to see a fair amount of stars here on a clear night.... But THAT, is really awesome.

Reminds me of when I was a kid.
Thats what we'd see.

But cities grow, suburbs have more lamps... and the stars recede.

Before I moved, I lived in a place where you couldn't really see the wash of the milky way anymore, it was just a thin layer of the brightest stars.

Now I get to see it again... But no where near as brilliant as that.

I imagine there are those here who would have NEVER seen a sky like that one.

Do me a favour... Lay out there, stare at the sky, suck up starlight, and enjoy it.

More people should... It's just so beautiful 馃挏
[@912138,OogieBoogie] definitely whenever I think it sucks that I鈥檓 so far away from the city and don鈥檛 have the convenience鈥 realise just how lucky I am鈥eople would kill to have a beach on the doorstep, the fresh sea air and the fabulous night skies. My favourite thing is to lie in the still night and enjoy the show

Sadly I live in the light pollution capital of the world, so I rarely see a night sky anywhere close to that. Nice photo.
[@403045,Ambroseguy80] I can鈥檛 imagine that, at night it鈥檚 so peaceful, quiet and pitch black where I live
Ambroseguy8051-55, M
[@1203119,Sophiesmiles] enjoy your advantages 馃専
[@403045,Ambroseguy80] thank you 馃槉
I do. It's why I have a firepit. You get the best of both worlds here in the country....certainly no bright city lights to fade out the sky.
[@841884,Freeranger] it鈥檚 the best way to spend an evening
[@1203119,Sophiesmiles] I hear ya.....I haven't for a bit because it's been so blasted hot but, cooler weather is coming.
I do. Such a gorgeous photo.
I live in high altitude next tot he Rocky mountains. The air is ultra clear and fresh.
[@1173,Magenta] I imagine you have beautiful night skies 馃寣
[@1203119,Sophiesmiles] We do. It's amazing up there. 馃挓

When I go fishing at night I carry my micro binoculars and at times I sometimes think there must be a god when I look at the night sky.
Yes ever since I was a kid watching tv wondered what it would be to be like lost in space trying to find my way home thx to Dr Smith lol

Beautiful picture and yes, I can do that at anytime as I live in a small town and we don鈥檛 have much light pollution.

I count all the stars I can see in the sky every night. One. And the moon. I live in a big city.
FurryFace61-69, M
[@45528,hunkalove] ok how many stars are there ?
hunkalove61-69, M
[@1155,FurryFace] One. Probably the planet Venus. Too much light pollution in the middle of Denver.

It's pretty, 馃 but I'm not gonna let those stars bully me into feeling insignificant. 馃槵
[@444927,Classified] good for you
[@1203119,Sophiesmiles] 馃槍馃構
According to legend.. There's as many stars in the sky as grains of sand on the earth鉁
[@1224465,AthenaArena] the universe is a big place鈥 could quite believe it
Yes..i love looking at the stars and losing myself in my own thoughts
[@1086727,LadyJ] it鈥檚 a great way to relax at the end of the day
[@1203119,Sophiesmiles] yes it is 馃挄
No because there are too many stars and not enough time :(

Plus I rather count the cute asses I see 馃槒
