Brits: "We didn't enslave anyone. That was the Americans." Is colonialism really any better than slavery?

FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
No one alive today spread colonialism or slavery. We like to blame people in the present for what people in the past did. It's futile .

@FreeSpirit1 Exactly!!

Colonialism spread language culture and religion. These forces unite the world and make the world better today.

@Roundandroundwego I said nothing about Hawaii.

I do believe that the Hawaiians killed Captain Cook in an unprovoked attack though.
@Muthafukajones all colonization was about the same - Lord Jeffrey Amherst shot Indians from horseback and making English the only language actually happened in the USA.

@Roundandroundwego The United States has no official language. Your examples are highly specific to the United States. Your bias is obvious. Consider colonization on the global scale and open your mind to the modern repercussions of colonization. It was both a good and a bad thing. Consider the issue more fully.

To be fair they stopped slavery by passing a law.

30 years later slavery caused a destructive civil war in the US.

I can't believe any right minded British person would say that today. From Sir John Hawkins through we have a country wealth built on the banks of the slave trade.

british people just need some sort of leverage to be able to prove that they are somehow superior to america. which considering their failure of a healthcare system (yes, i am aware that americas system needs improvement), dropping current exchange rate, high percentage of taxes, and democrat idealism prioritization I don't see what's so great about it.

Caucasians, Arabs, Oriental, Caribs, South American Indians, every-one where also in slavery
llloydfred · 56-60, M
@InOtterWords And what would anyone want of this.
@llloydfred they can learn from their history, they can accept their country's role in the development of racism in america and work at being part of the solution
llloydfred · 56-60, M
@InOtterWords Racism in America will never stop amongst people, as long there is choice, But God will forgive and take his own. Racism is biblical. We just have to accept it and act better. This has nothing to do with countries and 400 years bs or Pay Me selfishness for my forefathers (what ever).. if that be the case call 1800 Prejudice Countries Slavery (LOL) no retainer needed.
What Brit said that?

We have an shameful history.
Brits came up with concentration camps. The Empire was filled with blood and they began slavery.

The difference is that when Britain abolished slavery they embraced the notion unlike their cousins over the pond
Brits have a problem with revising history. They fail to do it and fail to learn, on purpose.
