The Smiths, The Replacements, The Stone Roses, Psychedelic Furs and of course Bowie!

Talk Talk, The Smiths, Devo, Genesis. Some of these groups formed in the 70s but they are 80s bands to me.

Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi and Nirvana! These originated in 80's. Otherwise, lots of rock hits came from the bands that originated in 60's and 70's. Like Queen, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Iron-Maiden, Kiss, The Police, Blondie and etc.
