The Beatles had a significant following at a point of history experiencing change. They were varied as well which broadened their appeal. Paul was the commercial one. His sweet love songs played well with the ladies. John was the ideologue spreading social commentary, and George was the spiritual one always interested in eastern religions. Ringo was the clown and a damn lucky SOB. Replacing Pete Best early on because the other guys just didn't like Pete, Ringo was such a bad drummer in the beginning they had to use studio drummers to make their recordings. .

The Beatles made a huge impact on the music and style back then. Look how many groups tried to copy their hair do and clothes ? The Beatles memories are fading and in another decade or so I don't think people will remember them much . @lasergraph
