I Love Sea Shanties

There is a whaling exhibit in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

They have a board with a bunch of buttons. Each one plays a different sea song.

I hate the idea of whaling, but love songs of "Sea Shanties" sometime, listen to Burl Ive's, "Jack was every inch a sailor" a favorite of mine since I was a youngster.

Yeah, seeing that exhibit made me a bit sad for the whales.

But I eat lots of meat, and seldom feel bad about it.

I suppose at first, it should be sustainable. If people need it to live, like the Inuit, or the world at that time needed it to light their homes, then I suppose it is tolerable. But the latter people overfished.

Who knows? Maybe in a hundred years when meat is outlawed due to acceptable plant-based substitutes and changing attitudes, we will look on it all with horror, like we do now with whaling. But at least cows have no risk of becoming extinct.
