"I Can Sing a Rainbow / Love Is Blue" – The Dells
[media=https://youtu.be/KnTkMQDlVTM]
This soulful medley of two popular songs was recorded by The Dells for their 1969 album, Love is Blue.
Released as a single, “I Can Sing a Rainbow / Love Is Blue” reached #5 on the US R&B chart and #22 on the US pop chart. It was successful in other countries as well and made it to #9 in Canada, #10 in the Netherlands, #15 in the UK, and #18 in Ireland.
The Dells were a seriously good vocal group--perhaps a bit too good at times. In 1966, they were fired as the opening act for Ray Charles after they got multiple standing ovations during a performance. Ray’s manager reportedly told the group, "Listen, there's only room for one star in this show and that's Ray Charles. Where you want us to drop you off at?”
