I do tend to use background music a lot but quite selectively; often using the Radio Times to see what music or speech programmes I would like to hear.
(This weekly listing magazine seems the only one, certainly in the UK, actually to inform you of forthcoming radio programmes - and then rather parsimoniously restricted to 7 double-page per day spreads sandwiched between a sea of TV coverage and pages of wretched advertising "features".)
My source of music is almost entirely the radio but if it is offering nothing, in music or speech, to attract me at the time, I don't have it on.
Though still liking fuzz-pedal-hard-down rock, when driving on long journeys I prefer "classical" and indeed Classical, music as it is relaxing without being soporific. The presentation helps too, as driving itself is stressful enough without the patronising inanities of most pop-music channels. I find concentrating on the road tends to mask the radio anyway.

I am mood person but that’s more for the style of music I need playing at the time , music is like oxygen it enters every fibre in my body it is what makes my soul come alive with passion it connects to me sensually and and erotically as well .

@Sparklesatnite I think I knew that by your posts. I think many are like that and wonder why that is.

Than you I guess it’s the passion it makes you feel for me all music will make react form tears to joy to annoyance if its not the right genre that is need at the time . @Ontheroad

Music brings a certain joy to my life.
It reconnects me to the past.

I often prefer silence

I always listen to music when I'm driving. If anything happened to the CD player I'd be dashing off to my garage to have it fixed, replaced, whatever needed doing! 😰

No. My buddy plays either blues or heavy metal all the time. I like just my sound machine on rain sometimes it's on 24/7 to help my tinnitus.

I am also a mood music person. And in fact silence with no intake can be so nice sometimes.

@Magenta Thankyou!
I can't claim credit for taking the photograph but it is of the original Arish Mell (two words) whose name I adopted here: a small and rather inaccessible bay on the Dorset (SW England) coast. I don't know the name's
etymology.
About 3 or 4 miles to the West of Arish Mell is a famous rock arch called Durdle Door, and RickieChickie uses a photo of that - with a bright yellow plastic duck, of all things, in the foreground - on here as her profile photo.

Yeah pretty much, I prefer my playlists to the radio and I have a wide range of interests when it comes to musical styles. Kind of Mozart to Eminem..
