“Blowin’ in the Wind” – Etta James

[media=https://youtu.be/Sa3rWi5kq7o]

Gospel-style version of the Bob Dylan classic.

How many roads must a man walk down
Before they call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
And how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

How many years must a mountain exist
Before it’s washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
And how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
And how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind
I grew up with this song, it was one of my mums favorites. I rember that at first I only liked the music (that's when I was 5 years old and loved the sound of guitars) .... at some point I started to understand the lyrics and the meaning of the words.... .... 45 years later after I heard it for the first time, its words are still relevant and combine admonishingly with the music... fortunately I did not know then that mankind would never learn.

Thank you for this (for me so far) unknown version of this great song.... Gospel fits it well. My favorite will remain the original which another member already shared.... I love the harmony of the 3 voices and the sound of the guitars of course ;)

@RobinPhoenix Auch ich kenne den Song und mag vor allem den Text sehr gerne. 😊 ❤️

@RobinPhoenix It's an incredibly powerful song. Bob Dylan wrote it and I think he may have been the first to record it. But my favorite version (Peter, Paul and Mary) is the same as yours. Just about everyone must have already heard it, so I thought I'd share a version that's probably unfamiliar to most people.

Thank you for your interesting comments, Robin. 😎
Here's what David Bowie said about Dylan:

Oh, hear this Robert Zimmerman
I wrote a song for you
About a strange young man called Dylan
With a voice like sand and glue
Some words had truthful vengeance
That could pin us to the floor

@ElwoodBlues "Song for Bob Dylan". Bowie actually sounded like Dylan when he sang it.
💖🎼🎶 This song never gets old, thanks to the repetitive cycle of current events. 🙁

@Vivaci I know. If only the song did get old and become less relevant. 😕
Man is a hopeless animal. So don’t keep your hopes high. 😏@Rutterman
Thank you :)

This is the version I know the best

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON That is, by far, the most popular version. It's the first one that I heard.

@Rutterman Will I ask female celebrities on my Variety tallkshow about male celebrities they think is hot that they would do
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@JohnOinger Yes. That will become one of your trademark questions for female celebrity guests.

Nice.., I like it 👍

@eyeno Very glad you do. It's quite a bit different from the folk arrangements we usually hear.

@eyeno I'm a long-time fan of her music, but only recently came across her rendition of this song.

You're welcome. Thanks for commenting.
