Getting back to normal . .

Last Friday I went to the cinema for the first time in nearly three years to watch Top Gun Maverick (no, please don't ask why 🤦‍♀️). I paid £9.50 for my ticket, £3.00 for an enormous tub of popcorn that I am still finishing, and £2.00 for a drink.

The evening's entertainment was augmented by a fist fight that broke out in the front row, apparently arising from an irreconcilable difference of opinion over the correctness (or otherwise) of discussing the main feature with a neighbour in a very loud voice.

The future of cinemas occupied a disproportionate amount of the national discourse during covid lockdown. I wonder if the sector may now wither away naturally.

This is why people stream movies at home. People don't behave in public. Shut up and put that damn phone on silence and in your pocket.

@Crazywaterspring Exactly, and the behaviour hax got worse in two years. I think all those buildings are doomed to become expensive white elephants.

Honestly, I wish it would. I much prefer streaming content now. I go see movies fairly frequently and the "theater experience" is awful.

Awwww! 🤗🤗🤗 I personally would never watch that movie cause adult television and adult movies either scare me or I get bored and I honestly love children's movies and television aimed at children WAY more especially cartoons! 🙄🙄🙄 The only and I mean ONLY way I'd watch Topgun is if some company made Topgun the animated series! 🤣🤣🤣 Otherwise no thank you! 🤭🤭🤭

@MommyLucy I agree and I will take my film recommendations from you in future! 🤗💖😍

I went to the theater last Thursday and saw the new Top Gun also - the first time we’ve been to the movies since before Covid. I wanted to see it “on the big screen” My husband got a beer, I got a bottle of water and we shared some Buffalo wings and a large popcorn- it was almost fifty dollars - so I suppose the same that we worked have spent at a restaurant 🤷‍♀️

I havnt been to a cinema in so long I honestly cant remember the last time I went . I dont think I ever will again as I find paying exhorbatant amounts to sit in a cinema for 2 hours daft . I would far rather wait for it to be online or on dvd to watch it . The whole family and friends etc can then watch it for the price of a dvd .

The last movie I saw in a theatre was the first Lord of the Rings movie in 2001. I think it cost $8 and it sucked. Tom Cruise couldn't pay me enough money to see one of his movies.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@hunkalove I'm not a big fan of his acting 😉

It would be sad to see cinemas become obsolete streaming a new movie at home just isnt the same at all.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Ross19 I still have a romantic attachment to cinemas as they were an important part of my teenage years 🙂 But I'm fascinated by the process of change and how it suddenly occurs. A good compromise is 'community cinema' where you screen a film digitally in a village hall, etc, which can be a more re!axed and friendly setting 🙂

And over hyped movie me thinks
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl it looked like they drew up a formula the everything that should be in and then ticket all the boxes except for a story
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@ozgirl512 I don't understand the point of a sequel which adds nothing of substance to the original. The producers want a certain hit and are too frightened of alienating the perceived core audience to do anything creative.

@SunshineGirl it's called money ...
HarryHawk · 61-69, M
Thanks, I won't waste my time and money now 👍
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@HarryHawk I'm an influencer! 😆

@SunshineGirl you've got more followers than most of them!
Carissimi · F
I hope you, at least, enjoyed the movie.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Carissimi I enjoyed the rich social tapestry on display during a rare excursion from my home 🙂

Movie theaters are such a ripoff.
