Realistically, what we know as old movies are just the ones that were good enough that people remember, the ones that stand the test of time and persist because they were good or meaningful. They made a lot of films back in the day, and a lot of them were just not very good, so no one bothered to preserve them. Same can be said about modern films. Give it like 50 years, and people will have a few from this era that really stand out as good stories, and not just blatant money-makers.
That said, I like a good mix. I tend to prefer older films, but there are a few from the last few decades that I'd call classics.

There's some very good modern movies with strong stories but they fly under the radar. Just like a lot of the old ones did in their time!
Never forget that people thought Citizen Kane was shit and Kubrick made a huge mistake with 2001. In 50 years no one will talk about all the blockbusters of today. They will talk about Parasite and Manchester by the Sea

All the classic war films would look weird in colour, Guns of Navaronne, Battle of Britain, Longest Day etc

I like black and white tv shows and movies. I don’t know why they had to ruin them by putting them in color

You have to go with a mix.
However, at the “B” movie club, we consider the bad ones to be the best.

I’ll always love the classics. They are more fulfilling to watch.

@SW-User Thanks, I kinda agree with you on that score.
