What do you think of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace?

Grown up with 1-6 so I guess I would necessarily have a different opinion than if I saw them all for the first time now.

After rewatching the whole saga in more recent times (2018 or so), I've enjoyed 1-3 for the political plot the most, I haven't been bothered by jar jar in the slightest (but again, see the paragraph above); the second movie is a bit flat on the first half (especially the whole romance, which arguably wasn't well written and especially in original language felt, let's say, weird.. [i]I don't like sand[/i]) but then enjoyable, the third is my favorite of that trilogy and imo it's underappreciated. The visuals and the locations are still stunning 20ish years later and very particular/original.

Of the recent ones, 8 seriously suck and 9 follows closely; 7 didn't enthusiasm me much but at least allowed for a better continuation that however didn't happen. The spin offs are much better, the third trilogy doesn't add anything meaningful and only pushed a lot of people away.

And even the originals are far from perfect, ewoks in 6 are imo on par if not even worse than jar jar if one wants to be objective.

A crappy disappointing movie. The first one, Episode 4, was pretty good but it was downhill from there. By Episode 1 they sucked. And got worse and worse. As a filmmaker George Lucas was good at special effects. And making money.

Uh... watch the Clone Wars cartoon. He's got a good portion in that series.

I liked them all. Wasn`t fussy about JarJar.

Jar Jar would be 'cancelled' these days. Which is the only good thing I can find to say about the film...

Darth maul later came back on one of those animated shows they did and gave him more of a back story we got to see him again on the big screen in solo

I think star wars gets worse the more it goes on. In fact my fav is not even one of the regular series. My fav is Rouge One.

Darth Maul was hands down the coolest Star Wars villain...
And my coolest Halloween costume (about twenty years ago).

The drama is great but it is frustrating how little actual information we're given.

If you ask me, it is just the worst of all Star Wars episodes. I only say: Jar Jar Binks!

That said that kid who played Anakin annoyed the shit out of me.
