I just noticed, compared to a decade or maybe even two decades ago, there's less smoking onscreen in movies and TV.

We watched the x files lol..the cigarette smoking man would be out of job if that was made now lol
He'd be the chewing gum guy instead

There is a lack of everything these days thanks to the political correctness cry babies

Probably deliberate policy, so as to try not to encourage anyone to smoke.

It may reflect real life too, though I realise there are probably big differences between communities and countries. I have certainly noticed far fewer smokers than there were twenty years or so ago. There are plenty of vapour-smokers, but I think fewer now of them, too.

I don't have any sales figures to examine - this is just everyday obersvation in public.

I've also quite large and geographically wide-spread circles of friends and acquaintances, and cannot off-hand think of any smokers among them, though some used to smoke.

So it may be the film and TV shows are both passively discouraging the "noxious weed" and reflecting reality anyway.

My observation is that only the bad guys still smoke in TV shows.

@helenS How else to discourage smoking than by showing only bad folk smoke. Kids will associate.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Longpatrol ... unless they love the bad guy!

basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
True, I'm watching Battlestar Galactica, and almost every episode something is smoking a cigarette or cigar.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
That will reflect society at large.
