What do you think

So the other day on a different social media site, i posted this statement. "I have coronavirus, some people call it the common cold" and i was told that it was offensive to people who might have someone who died from covid. I don't see why as it is a factual statement. The common cold is caused by one of the MANY forms of coronavirus that affect humans. I was trying to be funny but factual at the same time. What do you all think?

What you said is correct, but I can see if you said it that way to someone who has been bereaved by Covid they may find it very upsetting, because the virus genus has become so tied up in public knowledge with the specific disease.

However, you didn't. You said it to someone whose own reaction was too critical; but as Nayla points out, expressing any opinion now is becoming an eggshell-treading exercise. I suspect the most delicate though are the third-party offendees.
