I wonder if it has occurred to anyone that staying in Afghanistan was a disaster and leaving Afghanistan was a disaster, and nobody wanted to accept that as part of their 'legacy'?

I'm not sure that's true. At least from what I'm seeing. I would say though that it's not as if women were entirely free to do what they wanted before the Taliban. This isn't anything new. The issue, as I see it, is Islam. It's no religion of peace. Killing and oppression is built in to that cake. And it kind of pisses me off when I see Americans defending religions that harm. Or Muslims staying quiet about the realities of their make believe horseshit. Without "us vs. them" enemies religion would cease to exist. People die and are oppressed because of religion. Isn't god wonderful?
