What was your reaction when you were told that your parents aren’t going to be around forever?

I remember my older half siblings flat out said it to me to my face that dad (now deceased) isn’t going to be around forever so I need to stop clinging on him, be less dependent and start being a woman. Stop disrespecting him, giving him a hard time because one day I’ll regret how I treated him and that’s why dad pushed us to be more independent and do things on our own. He especially pushes me because I have to understand what they’re talking about.
People don’t think I understand anything because I’m autistic and think autistic people “don’t get it”. Even my dads girlfriend bluntly told me that I needed to get my shit together and didn’t hold back and said, “Your Daddy isn’t going to be around forever. He’s NOT! You’re not a young child anymore and you’re old enough to hear this. He isn’t and you need to stop thinking he is a young man. He’s getting up to that age. What are you going to do when he’s gone? Stop looking for approval and permission from your dad. You’re a grown woman now. I’m getting you to woman the up. I’m worried about you so much and I think about you every damn day!!!! Why can’t you understand that??” I kept telling her I already know nobody will be around forever but she kept saying no I don’t and I’m always living in lala land and nobody is having these talks with me. They do. I’m 20. I was told this as a teen. It’s like the older you get, the more brutally blunt people get with you. I cried in my room an hour later after I was told this. They don’t care if it hurts my feelings. I spent my last days with my dad and it was great memories. My siblings and I were there to take care of him.

You don't have be told. You kinda figure it out when you get old enough to figure out that all people die.

@DCarey Then why do people act like I don’t know or don’t understand we don’t live forever? I think it’s because I’m autistic and slow. I’m fed up about it! People act like I don’t know what death is.
