I'm still really indecisive about ADHD meds

But I'm getting desperate because I'm so behind on life.

I really hope the meds work, but I'm still chicken about it

Ugh, sorry for being all soppy :c

They’ve been extremely helpful to my kiddo. I’ve watched their self-esteem steadily coming back now that they don’t feel buried and a ious all the time. I can’t even imagine what a difference they could make for an adult with so much Adulting to manage. Sam didn’t have any adverse reactions, but everyone’s body is different. It is important to know that the stimulants don’t require sister drugs to get off of and you can choose not to take them on days off etc if you want to. There’s no ‘withdraw symptoms’. If you decide that you don’t like how you feel when you’re on them then you can always ask to update the dose or stop without it being problematic.

I guess an important question to ask yourself is are you in a position to keep experimenting with various homeopathic approaches rather than going on the medicine or do you feel like there’s an urgency to get on top of your life before things get completely unmanageable? Another important thing to keep in mind is even after you go on the medicine you’re still going to have to learn new organization, time management, implement routines etc. It’s not one or the other. It’s both, medication and lifestyle changes to get on top of things.
I am always suspicious of any Meds. Exceptions are pain killers and even then chose wisely.
Just know they love to label and pigeon hole us in order to sell.
Big Pharma is a business to profit and keep shareholders happy.

I used to work with this guy who has high blood pressure and the amount of Meds he took was like a child in a Lollie shop.
Started with just high blood pressure, than another to deal with side affects oh HBP pills and then a 3rd to deal with side affects of the 2nd one dealing with side affects of the HBP pills all the way to taking 10 pills a day
Rather just put up the high blood pressure and change life style.

Yeah same,
I really only take meds after I've already tried every other alternative 😅
stressing any med for the first time can be really scary, perhaps start with half a tablet? if it’s a capsule tho maybe take it when you have a day to just chill so that you know how it will make you feel

Which one has your Dr put you on?
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@Fishy oh sorry, thought you had the diagnosis already. Do you drink coffee?
Fishy · 36-40, F
@Jeephikelove
My psychologist is a clinical psychologist who is qualified to diagnose, so I think(?) I already have the diagnosis, but she can't prescribe meds 😅

Yeah, I love coffee,
Sometimes I helps but not always 😔

@Fishy ohhh. My son has ADHD, he has tried Concerta and Vyvanse (we’re in Canada). He didn’t like the side effects so he won’t take them now. I give him coffee in the morning because caffeine works differently in a person with ADHD. He says it helps calm him.

Aw. I hope it works out for you. I hear meds can be life changing.

Your regular doctor could prescribe them.

I don't have ADHD. I have OCD, and a few years ago, I saw a therapist to begin to manage it, but I eventually hit a wall and decided to go for meds and it was a good move.

Would you struggle if the you were diabetic and needed to take insulin? Mental health issues are valid and need to be treated the sane.

Yeah true,
I just don't know what to expect from the meds and I still have the nagging doubt that I haven't tried enough natural or non-med ways to help my ADHD... And also the "what if it's not ADHD but something else" doubt 😔

@Fishy Get a second opinion. My oldest has ADHD and medication has made a world of difference for him. Just because you take meds doesn’t mean it’s forever. When your mind isn’t racing you can work on ways to help your adhd. There’s no shame when you take meds. Just remember that 💖.
