All these things we've been trying to get away from -- the hatred, the distrust, the conspiracism, the fear -- they are the brain operating correctly.

It can be sad if you just take it as it is and sit with it.

But then you should consider human ingenuity; we invented triangular sails to move against the wind and, in a similar fashion, we can route our negative tendencies in such a way to create net positive outcomes.

Thats what I think, anyway.

Electrical systems, hydraulics, pullies, all these things are apparatuses we have designed that use the natural tendenies of universal forces to accomplish work.

Our minds can be harnessed similarly.

Oppressing ourselves and not facing the darkness is leading us somewhere truly disturbing.

The problem for our brains is that there is not enough of those things presently in our reality to occupy it, so it must manufacture them. Our brains evolved in significantly more dangerous times. They just aren't prepared for the levels of relative safety we've reached.
