Has anyone taken Alpha lipoic acid for neuropathy?

It's an antioxidant in our body but sold in pill form too for pain relief. (At a higher amount than what the body makes). It also can lower sugars for diabetics. My sisters sugars however go down FAST even with the slightest amount of insulin. She's reluctant to try ALA. But she heard ALA is helping neuropathy symptoms.

She read that it's offered in IV in hospitals but it seems no doctor can approve it or seems to know how to obtain a stay in the hospital to be monitored, receiving ALA. Anyone ever try it?
