I think you can hit it off with someone right away, but One of the biggest lessons I wish I learned sooner in life is that there’s a huge difference between having a connection and Love
@WhateverWorks to me, Love also means you want the best for the other person, even if it means sacrifices for you.
Hopefully this feeling flows both ways, is mutual.

That’s very true. I also think …. In a healthy relationship people work together to find compromises to take each other’s needs and desires into consideration, but if loving someone requires a ton of personal sacrifices to the extent you don’t enjoy your own life anymore or like who you are anymore then it may be time to reevaluate whether that is a good relationship to stay in @Ghostinthemachine

Absolutely not, although some people seem to delude themselves into thinking they have something real and profound. I think it's more a desire for that place to be filled in their lives, rather than reality.
People can really present themselves as something they're not through solely online interactions. And they do. You definitely have to go beyond the message-only/online communication to truly get to know them. And if you're serious about a relationship with someone, they should be willing to meet you in real life, otherwise you have to question their motives.
I've been in an LDR for almost three years now, and I really didn't get to know my current partner until we went beyond the online communication. And when we finally met in real life, it added so many layers and depth to our relationship.

Not at first PM, but have had it hit me at first sight. Lasted 10 yrs too. But then things got in the way...like things going on inside me and same for her and then to add it together, no communication for either of us on what was going on.
But with PM's, people can say or do anything and you can't read their faces, their body language or see how they are while answering you. How the treat others around them. Something you can do face to face. Never know what you're getting in PM's

@Ghostinthemachine it’s the people that think they own all of your time after only talking a few times seem very mentally unbalanced to me. I am not just talking about men either. I encountered a woman who was a complete narcissist recently and she thought I owed her every free minute 🙄.

@riseofthemachine Sounds like you are speaking from experience, and maybe quite few of them.
I try not to be bitter about past relationships, which can be difficult at the time for sure. But each one brings a new experience, and for that I am grateful for. Perhaps we aren’t meant to have one long lasting relationship our entire life, but a series of them based on where we are at that point in our life, and whether we meet someone compatible to what we are going through. 🤷🏻♂️

It doesn't matter how much you think you like or love someone on-line, or get along or are attracted. There is no way you know for sure if the chemistry and other factors are really there until you meet them face to face, look them in the eye, smell them and the biggest of all, live with them.
