Ignoring the narrative bias of the story, what are your thoughts?
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I think he was a fictitious character who was given the credit for Sir William Marshalls deeds, that was invented to give people hope in a time of need.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Thevy29 he definitely is a fictional character
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
He stole from the rich, defied the powerful, helped the poor and needy, and built a community. Hero.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@ServantOfTheGoddess and yet if the powerful caught him today, his fate would likely be little better than his fate had he been caught in the time the stories were written.
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
@ViciDraco I agree. That's why stories of him are still relevant.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@ServantOfTheGoddess I feel like a lot of the people he would be trying to help would happily turn him over these days.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
As with many people throughout history we tend to focus on the good parts and forget any bad. There is some truth to saying history is written by the victor.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
He helped to overthrow a userper to the throne
TaraNice · 36-40, F
@HoraceGreenley yeah but Dickie left Johnny in charge
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@TaraNice But not to steal his kingdom
TaraNice · 36-40, F
@HoraceGreenley well it's too late to do anything about it now 🤣
bugeye · 26-30, F
anti-hero maybe? definitely Chaotic Good. what he's doing is wrong and against the law but his motives are good.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
Stealing is stealing
He was a thief who shared. 🤷‍♀️

Hero to the people he provided for, villain to the law
MethDozer · M
Stealing from the thieving power elite isn't true theft.

@swirlie it is amazing how nobody marks him a villain, but yet progressive tax systems that build social systems from the excess wealth of the rich are so frequently demonized.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@ViciDraco and villain was marked just after I made that post, haha
