Good for you. Dump them. When customer loyalty and a great track record isn't part of the equation they don't deserve another dime of your money.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Ynotisay that is what i said. i have never been late ever. even the customer service reps are nasty.
Ynotisay · M
@akindheart Good for you. Companies need to be reminded of how these types of relationships work. I'm sure they come from a place of assuming the worst. People don't pay their debts. But that needs to go out the window when they're dealing with those who do. We call the shots on who we work with. Hope it all works out.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Ynotisay I just made a rather large payment today. serves them right

Decades ago, on a whim and knowing i would not qualify, l applied for an AmEx green card. My dad had one, as well as Carte Blanc and Diners Club.

Surprisingly, one arrived in the mail just weeks before separating out of the US Navy. I was quite pleased that my credit rating was good enough for an AmEx green, later gold, and eventually, a platinum card.

However, after 40+ years of a great experience and relationship with AmEx, they went "woke." Apparently, "Membership Has its Privileges" (tm), had been translated into "Membership has its [White, Cisgendered, RAY-cist (tm), homophobic, transphobic, and xenophobic] Privileges."

Consequently, with great angst, guilt, and penitence, i renounced my AmEx "privileges." And made a good faith effort to let them know that their new, woke business model sucked.

It was a privilege cutting up both cards.

@billybcgn25 i have a gold card and it allows me perks flying . I learned the hard way about cutting up credit cards. i will keep this around and use it for flying. but i will never charge on it once its paid off

Capital One. They've been known to sue over as little as $20 and will absolutely come for any money they're owed. Plus, the rates in this area are trash.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
When "they" make the mistake, they make more money😏
Yea, the one with the highest balance!!

Paypal Credit will take a payment made in the next month and suck it backward into the previous month. I have called them up, practically crying, to complain of this practice...and told them they would get no more money that month because I didn't have any more to give them. They ended up fixing it...THAT time.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
I use Capital One for everything
akindheart · 61-69, F
@MarineBob that is what i heard
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
I cut mine off about 12 years ago!
akindheart · 61-69, F
@heavyone2 i closed a credit card that i was never going to use and it really affected my credit score
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
@akindheart Yes , it will do it. I closed a couple of small ones and it did it also.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@heavyone2 there was no way i wasgoing to use this 29% card. it w as only for 7500. But it tanked it. I am moving it back up now
SW-User
I don't like any of them but if you don't have them, they consider you as a bad credit risk.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@SW-User right. well they are getting paid off. i can't wait to see their whiny butts asking for my business
They do this on purpose. I had couple of late payments because their site was not available when I was making payment and I didn't remember to go back to pay. They also charge interest for two cycles rather than one if you had a late payment. I stopped using it and will consider cancelling it when my points are used up.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@jjoe01 they have been nasty all the time. it is not necessary
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
If I had to pick one, American Express would also be mine. I just never got one because none of their offers seemed as appealing as the others.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Ambroseguy80 i dont even know how i got it. But i keep it for priority boarding with Delta. if you cancel it, it will screw up your credit report
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@akindheart I get ya. And totally not understanding of the payment error.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Ambroseguy80 i honestly don't know how that happened. but i paid it on the spot. all 35.00 dollars.
SW-User
No, they are all pretty much the same. I have a few and use them just enough to keep my FICO score high.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@SW-User i made a mistake and closed one that i will never use. it tanked my score. still trying to get it up
SW-User
@akindheart yeah, it isn't good to close them out or even to not use them. Just a small purchase every once in a while seems to keep everyone happy.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
AMEX jacked up my rate from 12% to 30% just because I pay in time and in full. That was a few years ago.

Capital One sat on a payment just so they could charge me a late fee. I pay in full every month. I stiffed the bastards on that rolling late fee. It wound up north of a hundred dollars in fees.

I pay my cards off and on time every month and have for years.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Crazywaterspring i am paying them off and will never use them again. i have been using my social security to pay off debt so i can retire
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
I had kinda the same problem with MBNA years ago. I got back charged for ALL my purchases to 29.9%. (From 3.99% introductory rate) I was livid…they didn’t update my address correctly when I moved so I didn’t get a statement. Grrrrrrr. Worst company I ever dealt with.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@LunarOrbit oh gosh. i will not use them. I have a bank of america card that is pretty good.

This sort of thing really winds me up. It's obviously just a computer decision, but you are making a human response and I don't blame you. I think I'd do the same.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Thomas52 boy was it ever vicious. They will hound you too. I called them and told them to pay the 35.00. they are in for a huge awakening. I will keep the card to give me priority boarding. that is it
