As we do here In the UK wear warm jumpers to keep the body warm n warm inside the body with hot drinks.. When out n about wear gloves n scarves to keep the cold out n n hands n body warm. Wear a cap when it's cold to keep the head warm. Layer clothes as much as you can.Keep in the warm as much as you can.

The English, typically, have lived in some very old drafty homes, and over the centuries have developed methods to cope with very little heat. Their philosophy was to heat the body, not the room.
Primarily, they wear jumpers, (or sweaters as we say in the USA), and layers. Gone are the days of long dresses for women, and wearing layers of petticoats to warm our legs and feet, but we do have long underwear. In the distant past, ladies wore warm woolen shawls draped about their shoulders to stay warm. Today we have afghans and throws.
I used to rent a room in an ancient and uninsulated house in Plymouth, with single pane windows and no insulation, and the wind and ice from the harbor blew straight up the street to my bedroom. At one point, I was so cold I ordered a ski suit online. I also ordered battery operated socks, because I could warm my upper body, but my feet would freeze as I sat at my desk working on my laptop.
When sleeping, if there is NO heat, wear a hat to bed or a hoodie. I survived four days of no heat or electricity in that same uninsulated house by piling every article of clothing I owned on my bed under the duvet, and covering my head. I was as warm as a hibernating squirrel!
Primarily, warm yourself from the inside. Mugs of warm soup, hot tea, cocoa, and so on, warm your internal organs so you don't require all of your energy to warm your insides.

@4meAndyou Oklahoma is bad because we get so much changes of weather here, gust fronts and even if the temperature only falls 10 degrees the swelling starts about 2 days before. Rain or snow headed this way will do it too even in the summer. I have wondered what it would be like to move to Kauai island where the temperature is always moderate and doesn’t change much from summer to winter. How that would affect arthritis.

@mondayschild2 yeah I have already pulled out my jackets & long thick coat and snugglies to layer if and when it gets really cold. I lost some weight so my coat fits good already, planning on losing more.

@Stereoguy yeah that’s probably it. The irony is that the humidity in the summer is a killer combined with heat…you can’t cool down very much and the sweat clings. When we were driving to Yosemite we stopped for lunch in Baker, California which is not too far from Death Valley. Got some groceries and took our lunch and a watermelon to a little tiny park and sat at a picnic table under a tree and ate and relaxed. It was so nice sitting there. When we packed up and got in the car the temperature was 100, I couldn’t believe it because I was so comfortable sitting there. Didn’t feel like I was sweating but the humidity was 15% so I was thinking it was in the 70’s.

@Darksideinthenight2 Oklahoma was hot in September when we should have been cooling off…we had 21 days that were 90F. Or above….October was warmer than average too, just stopped having to use the a/c at least part of the day a couple weeks ago. Farmer’s Almanac says we will have a cold & dry winter this year.

@4meAndyou People who make survival camping videos do that with rocks too. I saw one guy bring some folded heavy aluminum foil, collect some rocks from a stream, dig a hole and line it well with aluminum foil, add water and heat those rocks up and cook his ramen noodles that way. Those rocks were red hot though.

@TheConstantGardener How, when I am on fixed income and barely have any money left by the end of the month. Did you see my reply that said Inlive in section 8 subsidized housing? I am on social security disability, I can barely invest in my own cost of living.
