how do you deal with feeling threatened

i don't live in a rough neighbourhood compared to some areas of greater manchester, but i live on a small council estate and there is still quite a few criminal types/thugs you should avoid round here...earlier i was walking back from the grocery shopping and on the street i live on...a car full of criminal, gang- thug types drove past me and they was blasting out aggressive rap music...i never looked in their direction but i felt threatened and intimidated by them and i felt angered by them as well.....i took it personal, like they were there to threaten and intimidate me?

i dealt with with it by just carrying on walking towards my 3rd floor apartment and ignoring it....but they unnerved me quite a bit...as in the long ago past, i have been harassed by types like them...i was innocent and just happened to live in bad areas......but i had severe anger problems back then also.

anyway...how do you deal with situations LIKE THAT?

You and I, are so much alike, in the fact that we've been in situations, and we end up becoming unnerved. I went through so much crap exactly how you described. Went through a lot of bullying in high school.

The way I dealt with it, was to ignore them and move on. I've realized as I've gotten older, we can't hold on to a bad moment in our life. We have to keep moving forward. I also say that one of the best things to do, meditate. Or even, just take a couple of minutes, close your eyes, take a very deep breath in through the nose at a slow but steady pace, and exhale through the mouth at a slow and steady pace.

It always seems to help me. Especially for people with anxiety, it's a breathing exercise and your mind understands and the breathing will help give you a little bit of calm.

Glad you made it home safe, God Bless :)
