😅 It’s funny how you can dream about something then once you get it realize how grossly under-prepared you are lol

Growing up, I had ‘not helpful’ role models. Whatever ‘Adulting’ I’ve learned how to do came about from Google, YouTube, and books 😅 Suddenly we’re doing the homebuyer/homeowner thing and.. I’m quickly learning there’s a lot I don’t know anything about lol.

I’m back to the drawing board googling what words I need to know in order to even research the thing I’m trying to understand, so I can do the thing.😬

The hardwood floors guy looks at me with pity while I ask questions for the finishing quote as if everyone, except me came into this world familiar with the process of flooring lol

That's just what adulting is. Most of the time you won't have someone to advise you what to do, you'll have to do your own research and make some opinions and have questions and whether you're familiar with a topic or not you're still bound to run into some people that'll be...unpleasant to say the least. You're not under-prepared (that's your subjective opinion), you've just got a new quest.

Oh.. I don’t know about that. I’ve met a number of people who were fortunate enough to have parents who taught them a well rounded amount of life skills throughout their youth and general guidance, so they came into adulthood pretty well prepared for how to handle things. Seeing that made me very aware of the kind of parent I aspire to be, so my kiddo’s someday adulthood goes more smoothly than mine lol It’s often tricky though because I find myself trying to learn how to do things as I’m teaching kiddo how to do the thing ha ha. It’s not a perfect system 🤣
I like your ‘new quest’ take on things though. I agree that that’s a good perspective. Adulthood is filled with many quests.

Small pieces at a time.
*Budget* (create one, stick to it)
*Save* (put away a little money each paycheck for unforseen repairs)
*Pray* Ask God for guidance and good mentorship.

@WhateverWorks That you'll learn as you go. I know quite a few people will spend the $600-700.00 a year for home warranty that will allow you to pay a small deductible of $75.00 for any trades person to come out and complete the repair (most always with no extra costs) Normally without the warranty a plumber costs 100 to just arrive ( trip charge) that's before they do anything. Then the meter for costs starts running. The home warranty covers HVAC (heating an air), plumbing, electrical, some have roof coverage. I would consider that.

Thank you. That was really helpful advice. @Iwillwait

@WhateverWorks welcome.

Thats just how they treat everyone. Unless you are one of those handy types who spends most of their freetime doing home projects or unless you have a family member in the business no one knows most of that stuff.

This actually makes me feel a bit better lol @REMsleep

I can relate to this a lot. My parents are failed at parenting me and expect me to just know things they only thing they taught me is who to struggle not to be prepared or life skills. This is why I am big on telling people parenting is not for everyone.

It’s tough for sure. I don’t know how I would’ve gotten this far without Google lol @Chickie
