Is Bonhomie a thing of yesteryear?(both)

Back in the day, people seemed much kinder to each other even though they did not have two shillings to rub together
Seeing someone in a ditch even if drunk, they would not walk by and leave them
If neighbours were in trouble, or down on their luck, they would rally round and bring food and look after the children, or clean the house.
These days, many people shun their neighbours.
Walk down the main street late at night and what do you see? Gross behaviour in town centred on Saturday Nights.
People urinating, being sick, and copulating in doorways.
I miss the good old days where Bonhomie was the norm.
Now days it seems that Bonhomie's antonym is more to the fore.
Aloofness and coldness towards one's fellow man abounds.

I fear you're right.
Many of us grew up in neighbourhoods where EVERYBODY knew WHO you were !
Through your parents or even your Grandparents ! Either via workplace or church or just neighbours !
So respect had to be given at all times and if you were ever in trouble, word would soon get round and people would offer all kinds of 'help'. And whatever it was, financial; social; ironing; shopping; gardening etc. it would get done without thought of favour !
These days folk fly by on the motorway slowing down to observe the car wreck and may even reach for their phone to take a PHOTO !
Instead of noting WHERE along the road the trouble IS and calling the emergency services. Or even STOPPING to help !

And politicians talk about 'citizenry' as though it's just another soundbite.

@Picklebobble2 Most of that Looking after those less fortunate has gone now. So sad.

@Gusman You know what NEEDS to happen ?
Folk NEED to be OUTRAGED ! And outraged by knowing the RIGHT THING TO DO rather than just accept the crappy bullying techniques employed by current spin doctors when confronted !
It's all very well having a wealthy pleb like Trump or Merkel or May in office. Politics reduces to it's lowest common denominator on a fairly regular basis (Farage for example) but folk need to get OUTRAGED by things they KNOW are wrong because their Grandparents TAUGHT them it was ! And make it CLEAR to politicians (using legal means ! Letters. Phonecalls. E-mails. Media. Etc. that DECENCY is what they should be thinking in terms of. Not POLICY that divides !
