I thought stuff like this was a violation of oath

Ron DeSantis blocks funds for Tampa Bay Rays after team’s gun safety tweets

The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has defended his veto of $35m in funding for a potential spring training site for the Tampa Bay Rays, after the Major League Baseball team used social media to raise awareness about gun violence after mass shootings in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas.

Keeping in mind - pro sports ccounted for 580,000 jobs in Florida and generated $3.3 billion in revenues for state and local government coffers.
The LA Coliseum is currently unused, I'm sure they would be willing to let the Rays finish this season there. Would serve DeSnotnose right to lose all those jobs and income.
@independentone And California would be happy to have them !

So, retaliation is for certain a bona fide republican policy stance.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@Carla Yes, the issue is retaliation, not funding sports. Ugh.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Fukfacewillie of course it is.

This will all backfire on Florida in a year or so, but will De-dickhead be in state politics then? most likely not I think Disney should move out of Florida. The paid 780 Million in state and local taxes, the Rays and spring training bring in billions when all put together BaseBall should find another location for Spring training, they all shoul leave and what would happen? The state would go bankrupt.

@ilikeitlikethat23 So you're going to continue being an expert analyst on the state of Florida. I see.

Dunning-Kreuger, much?
ilikeitlikethat23 · 61-69, M
@Graylight no, but ass holes in government are ass holes
Shaveit · 61-69, M
@Graylight I actually have a large part of my family that lives in Florida and I am from Florida and I visit Florida frequently I get my information from intelligent people. Not from media.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
DeSantis a piece of doogie doo, but does anyone really expect him or his GOPer ilk to abide by the law or their oath of office?? BUT, as to the Rays, they belong to a multi-billion dollars league, let them pay their own bills for a change.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Cities and states have no business funding any sport
Graylight · 51-55, F
@MarineBob And?
MarineBob · 56-60, M
@Graylight shows they lack a commitment to the the people of florida
Graylight · 51-55, F
@MarineBob You'd be reading that situation incorrectly. It's the area that has been unfriendly to the Rays. They've been searching for a new stadium for a number of years now, as theirs is rated among the worst in the sport and has the smallest seating capacity. In the meantime, professional sports still bringing 4 billion dollars a year. And they are not pawns in a politician's bid for the monarchy.
firefall · 61-69, M
Its a violation of the First Amendment, but SCOTUS has apparently decided that doesnt apply to Republican politicians
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@firefall Small government! Unless we want big government!
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
It seems he doesn’t value free speech at all, and it’s so blatant.

It took you guys a year or so but I'm glad you found your trump replacement
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SW-User Oh, I get it. I'm part of the problem. I'm "the man," the 'establishment."

So original. You're so preciously, stupidly intelligent right now. You have no idea how much you don't yet know, so you simply assume in 20 years you've somehow have seen the world with a clarity generations before simply couldn't.

Please.

Do you have a class in European Civ? Maybe majoring in poly-sci? Good. Build on it, learn the fundamentals. Then live a life and get back to the rest of us.

@Graylight
so you simply assume in 20 years you've somehow have seen the world with a clarity generations before simply couldn't.
growing up with the internet I'd have to say I've had access to see the world and it's history with better clarity than past generations. And yes you are totally part of the problem. Look at the tension and division now and it's all for nothing. You probably don't even keep up with the MLB but are you going to miss a chance to make a hate filled post about a governor of a state you probably don't even live in. I'm just as guilty of the name calling as you two are so I can't say anything there but I can use my youth as an excuse for the immaturity what's yours
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SW-User You think we didn't have access to information before the Internet? We knew how to go get it; we didn't just sit and acroll.

I do live in this sate, as long as you've been alive.
It's not hate - it's criticism. Learn the difference.
You're a grown adult - you have no excuse for immaturity and that's the difference between you and me.

I know people here younger than you whom you'd barely understand in a real debate using critical thought. This has nothing to do with your age. That can change. Attitude is harder.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
That is how the system is working. You don't reward your enemies.
