One of my favorite songs from their later catalog..,
…as well as a good way to say F@CK YOU to the commercialization of music by record labels and radio stations and groups of Karen’s that organized in the mid 80s led by women like Mary (Tipper) Gore and others. Mostly wives of senators let’s just call them women who don’t have much to do so they figure that sticking their nose in other peoples business and in an art form(music) is a good enough use of their power and influence. I personally don’t think art deserves to be censored but I get it in a sense that parents don’t want their children using the 7 worst words in every other sentence out of their mouth. Still I heard and interesting piece of history about John Denver joining 2Live Crew (😳 yep you read that right) in court about censorship and artistic freedom. Sometimes causes make interesting alliances.
Anyway here’s the clever song with the very clever and blatant intentional title.

Here’s an NPR article on the Parental Advisory labeling https://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2010/10/29/130905176/you-ask-we-answer-parental-advisory---why-when-how

Standing up for something he believed in John Denver and others against the PRMC
(And no it’s not an interesting motorcycle club)
It was actually just a group of people mostly (wives of men in powerful positions) who have nothing to do with the artistic expression of music but of course they didn’t let that stop them from butting in. So lame. #Karens
