@bijouxbroussard nothing says America like “active shooter”
robingoodfellow · M
@bijouxbroussard just watching the report on the news now, apparently the suspect had a run in with the police earlier and lured them to his home because he was enraged.
And of course this being America, he had a house full of guns. It's a horrible story.

I wonder how many innocent drug users & vendors have been ambushed by the police this year. Sucks that cops get murdered, but using that fact as a bludgeon against critics is kind of silly.

Instead of demonizing all cops shouldn't the emphasis be on improving the system to throw out the few abusive ones? What would it be like if there were NO cops whatsoever? There are bad doctors too but we don't demonize them to the point where they are ambushed. Neither liberals nor conservatives should be demonized either. We cannot let the acts of INDIVIDUALS justify violence against an entire profession or any group of people.

@Riverman2 A yes. The mandatory "everyone is out to get conservatives" trope and grand conspiracies about the media.
The problem is you are determined to pretend it is not a systemic issue. That is what ensures bad cops are the majority, not the minority. And history has shown until about the last 2 years most bad cops get a meaningless reprimand or are fired and rehired by a different department within a few months.
And I guess we are just going to ignore thousands of hours of video evidence of police brutality across the country. And standing by and watching doesn't make you a good cop.
I have police in my family too and the USA is usually help up as an example of how bad policing works.
It is also interesting you say you have police in the family but you seem completely unaware of the history of policing in the US.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow So your solution is ambush and shoot everyone that disagrees with you? That's what my post was about. That's the "systemic" problem here.

Just stop demonizing everyone in broad stereotype groups and save your demonizing for individual demons who reside in each and every group.

I get what you are saying. I have personal reasons to respect and support officers... the good ones, which are the majority of them. I will however, point out those that do go bad, or are bad day one. The problem is when there are bad ones, it bleeds over into all who wear the blue.
When you have an obviously disturbed individual armed with the firepower to kill at will and they decided it is a cop or cops that deserve to die, they don't care... not one bit, if that particular officer is a good officer or bad officer.
I don't know the answer, but pointing out and going after bad officers must continue. No breaks, no quarter given.

It's a tough, dangerous job anyway you look at it.
But our cities shouldn't be a combat zone,
Changes have to be made from the top down.

Sorry but someone dying on the job for something they literally signed up for doesn't absolve a system rotten to the core.
And fun fact the number one cause of police deaths on the job for years has been getting clipped by cars doing road stops. A fucking high viability vest could solve that but apparently decking everyone out with an M4 and BDUs is more important on many PDs.

The culture has to change where people don’t feel they have to fear the police as much as they do criminals. Before my brother retired, he and his partner did a wellness check. The subject’s granddaughter, about five, saw them in their uniforms and asked, almost calmly, "Are you going to kill us ?" Turned out she had seen her uncle (who suffered from mental illness) shot by police in their backyard. 😞

It takes some sick, sick, sick people to try to make political points this way.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Riverman2 You don’t think politicians use issues about law enforcement and the police to get elected ?
nonsensiclesnail · F
If we could all stop demonizing people, that would be wonderful. Killing and maiming is never Justice.

It says a lot about the cowards who do these things.
My heart goes out to those who are left to deal with the deaths and wounded.... and my hopes that people stop hating on each other and find some love in their hearts.
