I think an Indian or Pakistani accent is a sing-song accent, emphasis up, emphasis down, like a song in some ways. I've noticed that a lot of people lose their accents when they try to sing American rock and roll songs.

The best way to learn an American accent is through spelling things differently. Spell how they are supposed to sound, instead of the correct way.

I do this in my head with American southern accents, which sound funny to me.

Example: "Yawl hush up, ya he-ah?" (Translation: You all hush up, you hear?) "You doan hush up, Awl woop yore liddle butts!" (Translation: "You don't hush up, I'll whip your little butts!")
