They can do a router diagnostic test..
Check the speeds, signal strength and connectivity..
Ask about the cost of the service and appointment..
Could be legit or an angle to pitch an upgrade..
@perceptivei
Probably just want to sell you an upgrade..
Just make sure that the service call is no charge.

@Onestarlitnight I wish I understood it better is all. I don't necessarily like anyone I don't know in my house. Last time Spectrum visited, he was here all day and all in my basement and inside my house...and outside. I rather not have strangers in my home. So, I can't help but question it.

@Onestarlitnight There won't be a charge. They can sell over the phone. They know I want to lower my bill not increase it...

They can monitor the levels of your equipment like upstream or downstream signals if either of those are out of specs . It can affect your service. They can be affected by loose or bad connections in your home can also cause problems for other customers.

Sounds fishy. My service provider has never called me to say they found a problem. Usually, I’m begging them to fix problems.

That aside, your service provider has complete control over the gateway (cable modem, DSL modem, fiber d’eMate point, etc), and all the devices in your home connected to it. They know every web site you go to, and every bit in and out of your home.

So, if something is wrong with your device, they know immediately, as in the device is programmed to alert them.

Comcast had me get a new modem due to recent upgrades.
