Internet is back!

How many Canadians were goig through withdrawal
I had my cell. Watched dvds with my son. We are too reliant on technology. A simpler life seems better, healthier.
@JimboSaturn A reminder to have more cash upon me too!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@PoetryNEmotion Yes ! But for some reason the restaurant took credit but not debit; I don't understand that
@JimboSaturn I don't know why. Cash was accepted and credit too.

Was that why the quality of the posts here improved? KIDDING, MY CANADIAN FRIENDS.

No withdrawl. Just frustrated.

I heard several of my friends up in Canada were affected but only the ones on Rogers who had the problem, appears to be mostly resolved now.

@JimboSaturn Friends who are now back online told me that debit transactions were offline for most of the day and stores were pretty much empty too, guess many don't carry cash in their pockets much anymore...
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@spjennifer \yes but credit was ok, i don't understand that lol
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@JimboSaturn Different companies managing the transactions, maybe credit cards processing is done by a company or companies not on Rogers' network???

Loss of Internet service? Was that a country-wide breakdown or something affecting one region?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn Thank you. Ooh, a serious matter. I assume they have repaired the fault but I hope it had not caused too much damage anywhere.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@ArishMell No details I have a feeling it was a cyber attack
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn I'd wondered that, too. I'd have expected you would have received an official announcement saying why it happened. Maybe you still will.

It seems a difficult balance. No technical system is entirely safe from breakdown, and the best approach the service company could use is to be open and honest, and state the cause. If an attack though, saying so and giving too much information about it could encourage the attackers by confirming their "success".

Quite a few countries have suffered cyber attacks of one sort or another, with the most serious traced to countries like Russia, China and North Korea (the last is one of the world's leaders in developing attack software). I have speculated that some of those incidents were to test their attack methods and their victims' defences. If so, I dread to think what would happen if used "in anger" - as a weapon of war.

I didn’t have any issues. Don’t use Rogers as my provider and wasn’t out shopping yesterday
virgin mobile and whiteman's telecom.
No blackout for me babyyyy!

Withdrawal from what?
I've learned more of the internet.
GeorgeTBH · 31-35, M
Not me not on Roger's
Degbeme · 70-79, M
My cell was down but I didn`t care, no one could contact me. 😬
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Degbeme I couldn't work. Well maybe if I went to the office I may had had access but fuck it
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn I think you made a wise decision. 🤭
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Degbeme One of my best decisions
